Can somebody tell me what kind of idiots still exist in this country who buy this dell for $1800 ???.

It's difficult to understand. I have seen QVC selling pentium desktops for close to $2500 when you would get it for less than 600 on the net. How stupid people can be in this country ???

people will pay to have things simple. A lot of people don't know the difference between that and somthing worth 1800, and if they are familir with qvc they will just buy from them. People like what is easy.

Think you're being a little harsh. The fact is, people are getting ripped off all of the time, not just for computers. It's all about having the information of where to get the best deal.

For example, I work for a company that gets an EPP discount from Dell. They offer an $800 coupon plus 12% discount. Anyhow, I found out about this after I purchased my laptop, but I went ahead and ran the numbers to see what kind of difference I could get in the price.

Turns out, that the way they package the laptop I would have ended up paying very close to what I paid except for one interesting difference.

The deal with my company would require me to pay for the 3yr. warranty which is optional through the regular site.

Most people not being aware of the 750 coupon think they were getting a great deal, but in reality it's just a way to get people excited about something that appears to be a good deal when in fact they aren't really getting anything better.

just because folks aren't as wise and all knowing as you doesn't make them "idiots" now does it? lazy, uninformed maybe...but not idiots...i'm sure you have never overpaid for anything..

the key to success in a free market system is creating as much margin on your product or service while still keeping a customer base. How long has qvc been on the air? looks like they have it right! ;)

The audience is for people who surf channels rather than the internet. When they find a price such as $350 off / etc, they think that they have a deal. You get some other poor person who calls in and says how happy with their $2000 Dell 710m with the piece of mind from the 3 year warranty and ALL OF THE FREE SOFTWARE worth $750, YOU will hook some people.

The audience WILL not be computer savvy.

We should call in the next Dell show and put them on their toes....

"I was about to buy one of your computers when I just noticed a 40% off coupon/$750 off coupon, can you match that price?"

i think QVC just wants to turn a profit on their product. This isn't inherantly wrong - and neither is overspending on a product, as long you have the means to do it for long term - ie, very rich, old wealth, robber baron, etc...

neither party is stupid, or an idiot. QVC makes a buck, SO DOES DELL by the way, and the rich(er) consumer is satisfied.
