So my third D630 arrived today, and guess what...
The screen says CMO (Chimei)!!! Here are some pictures, not that great of shots:

Can you guess which one is the CMO? and can you tell me which one is different?
Another odd thing I noticed on the Chimei monitor:

compared with just the black and white wire on the AUO monitor being connected and the grey wrapped in plastic and left near the 2nd ram slot.

Can anyone guess the reason why the Chimei monitor has all three, grey, white, and black wires connected whereas the AUO monitor doesn't?

oh, another thing I want to mention that might be important to some:
All three keyboards are NOT alike.
The one that came with the CMO monitor (correlation does not prove causation), is very clunky and similar to my DELL inspirons. The other ones are more comparable to my M1210's but even so, one of them is more soft than all three.
-
Hi Sirius. Is the Chimei LCD better or worse, than the AUO one? Thanks,Jan.

I finally get to see pictures of your D630s.
-
You really can't tell in this picture, but the Chimei is the one on the left.
It turned out to be less bright, a tint of graininess, and a tint of red. -
rhymes. -

No you cannot. But you can request for a new LCD panel and install it yourself. It might be hard making a case since the CMO monitors are still not that bad.
Secondly, the best way to contact them is via email. And it's important not to forget requesting the bezel with it, because the bezel is useless once you remove it from the panel (it cannot be reused twice). -

EDIT: How do I know which one I get? Where on the laptop does it label which screen it is? -
it's in your control panel. device manager, click on monitor, double click on "generic PnP" go to details, pull the dropdown menu, choose Hardware ID's.
Should say something like CMO12312 or AUO1214.
Yah order your laptop, then I'll show you how to replace the screen if you want. -
-
To Homer Jay Thomson: You've been feisty and hyped-up about the D630 release and such, hence, you still have not ordered the laptop??? What's up with that. My D630 is on the way.... for work of course.
I'm hearing mixed reactions for the screens. Some say CMO is better, other claim AUO has the advantage.
here is the link in contrast to what Sirius_GTO commented: "AUO is the way to go"

You know, from those photos I actually like the one on the left (CMO), because the colors look richer... although it only is showing blue really... but that display makes the other two look washed out by comparison. It could be a color-calibration issue though. The other two do look a little brighter though.
I can't really make out the grainyness in the photos, but I'll take your word for it.
The keyboards may very well vary independently of the display panels.
I have no idea why the CMO screen would need an extra wire... or rather, why the AUO screen would have only two of the three wires connected to it. -
Sirius, you still have item numbers of your orders? I have:
Also, why do you need 3 D630s...? -
-
-
Cobalic - The one that you've ordered is the same number as mine that was the AUO monitor.
So according to others, CMO is the best? I really didn't think so. If you look at the picture, can't you tell the CMO has considerably more noise than the AUO monitors, or is it just me? Thanks -
Swarmer - I agree about the wires and it's bothering me, I don't know why it has all three wires plugged in.

I bet that Chimei LCD has alot of grain in the picture. I saw a 22" Chimei LCD at Micro Center the other day and it was one of the worse looking 22" they had. It had as much graininess to its picture as my old 9300's WUXGA lcd did. Although it was dirt cheap compared to the other's prices.
-
grain = noise. But I must admit, it has really vivid colors and great viewing angles.
-
Umm... well, my LCD's a bit dirty right now actually... maybe that's why I don't notice.
-
Did I miss the part where you said why you had THREE of those things?
-
Laura - they are be clones.
I'll trade you one for a date wink wink. -
You can buy my M1210!
-
awwww
Remember, I already have an M1210 lol -
I currently have the CMO LCD for the D630 and really feel like it is leaking light out of the bottom and the screen is blurry and washed out.
Dell can replace w/ the AUO screen, but I'm not sure if that would be better. There seems to be mixed opinions. Do you have any comparisons of AUO vs. CMO screen?
Also, you mentioned the keyboard issue. I did notice that the keyboard on my system isn't great right now. I think the D420 I used to use had a better keyboard. -
I answered you in a PM which the question you'd asked me is identical.

are you sure? It should be the same as windows Vista.

I found the device manager, but it lists the monitor as "Default Monitor". It does not give any details.
-
go to device manager, click on "monitors"
it should say "generic PnP monitor" (maybe it says default monitor in windows XP)
double click that
click on DETAILS tab
on the property drop down menu, select HARDWARE IDS. -
Homer_Jay_Thompson blathering blatherskite
Under the drop down menu I selected Hardware IDs it says:
Monitor\Default_Monitor. I tried other selections in the drop down menu and none tell me which monitor it is. -
So is the general consensus that AUO IS better? I don't want to install the AUO and see that it is actually a downgrade from the CMO.....
-
I just got my D630, and after checking, I have an AUO panel. The screen seems quite nice except that there is a decent amount of backlight bleeding on the bottom quarter of the screen. I'm assuming there's nothing I can do but live with that.
-
then go to the drop down menu and to hardware ID. -
Homer_Jay_Thompson blathering blatherskite
That makes sense because I could not find a "PnP monitor", but their was a "Plug and Play Monitor". I did what you said and found out I have an AUO 1347.
-
lol I figured you would know PnP stood for plug and play.
-
I always thought it was Poop n Party?
-
well, you're a dumbass so that's acceptable.
-
Homer -- how do you like your monitor??
-

Hmm... maybe switching wouldn't be worthwhile...... damn

This reminds me of the brouhaha with the Samsung 226BW.

Mine's an auo and I like it, except for a few fine contrast issues.
-
-
I have a cmo1428 this is my first laptop so I can't really tell a difference
-
The AUO will be installed this evening -- i'll let you all know how the upgrade went..
-
not to go off topic, but could anyone who has the CMO screen post up their product code? as in the one similar to what cobalic stated, where when ur ordering online and it will show the product code. just for future reference for those who want to know in advance if they got the AUO or CMO screen.
and also, i am also interested as to why a wire is not attached on the AUO model, unlike the CMO model with all 3 attached.
I guess AUO isn't the only company making screens for D630's
