I have 40 processes running and RAM usage (2gb ram) is constantly at 30% when the laptop is at idle. Is this OK or do i need to delete more programs?

Also is it ok to delete any of the Dell programs that come pre-installed?

Why dont you post up how many processes you have running and how much of your Ram is being used so we can all compare?

    Thx for ur time

Anyone else want to comment on their Ram usage and how many processes are running?

My desktop has 30 processes running and it's at 47% RAM usage, but only 5-11% CPU. I don't think you really have anything to worry about. Hell, Firefox alone normally uses about 96 MB of RAM.

Vista uses the system resources in a unique way. When nothing intensive is happening, the system puts a "hold" on some of the RAM and does system maintenance such as defragging. However, when you run a program that actually needs the RAM, the lowest priority maintenance gets dropped, and the RAM is freed for the more intensive program.

I just posted earlier in another thread about this. I have readyboost, superfetch and windows search disabled. Antivirus program installed, and as of typing this, after doing some gaming, according to task manager Physical Memory is 265mb cached (20%), 38 processes running, less than 2% cpu usage, and my page file is 661mb used of 4314mb. If that means anything.
Oh, and I remember my page file was just over 400mb before gaming this time around.

RAM at 30% is normal as well as the process count 40-60. If your always running a high cpu use...then I would worry.

Thanks above poster for mentioning the thread below.

Yeah no problem, yout guide is really useful as its the only one that had all the major tweaks in just "one" place. Thx for the reply guys, atleast i know that my laptop is running ok. BTW i never did a clean install mainly becuase i cant be bothered and just manually deleted the bloatware and used CCleaner do clean up any remaing files etc.

73 processes at 31% and 4% cpu usage.
