No, the resolutions guy said he would call me some time tomorrow with more information. A 1537 would be preferable, but a 1555 would be nice; at least I wouldn't have to deal with these damned media buttons anymore. And the ATi 4570 would be a nice upgrade.![]()
The only thing I don't like is the 16:9 HDTV display ratio. If I could get the internals of a 1555 into a 1535/1537 frame, it would be ideal.

I hate you!
How long did it take them to tell you a replacement. -
I first started noticing the eject issue in February. It's pretty much been an uphill battle with Dell since then.
-
Lol I am glad I got rid of mine when I did. It appears this problem cannot be fixed.
-
I just got off the phone with the resolutions specialist I've been in contact with...he says my replacement system order has been placed and should be here within 25 to 30 business days. He said that it would be the equivalent model that's currently in production, so that probably means a Studio 1555, since the 1535-1537 have been out of production for a while.
If that's the case, I'm happy. No more sensitive buttons to worry about, and the ATi 4570 should be a nice upgrade, even if it's the 256MB model. Like I said before, the worst part is the 16:9 display ratio, but I'm sure I'll be able to live with that.
I would like to thank each and every one of you who have posted in this thread and provided support and advice for me over the course of this issue since April. It sure has come a long way! Go on, take a bow and give yourselves a hand.
Cheers, all of you! -
Maybe it will get there sooner. Enjoy your new laptop.
-
They told me 15-17 before it arrives, and 5-7 before I get my config....no config details yetbut I hope to get em soon.
If I were to Instant chat em now, do you think that they would have specs for me seeing as it has been 7 business days (or 11 normal days) ? -
-
because they were to lazy to do anything considered helpful....
-
According to the rep I am in chat with now, I am to get my system on or before the 10th.
And that it is going to take another 3-4 days (normal) to get my specsHowever, I asked the rep the following question and the response I got was pretty good IMO!
- Seems like our local fortuneteller (Fragilexx) was right about the replacement 1555 I am "supposedly going to get" . -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
I have absolutely have had it with this 1535 laptop since February it has just been going downhill it started with the media controls then proceeded to just fail. Here is just a short list of the things that have not worked properly and how many times its re-occured
1 touch pad (daily) horrendous jerky at best and insensitive as a rock at worst
2 media controls (daily) besides normal crappy deal i get the vol +- and mute flashing atleast 5 times a week
2 USB ports stopped working (4x) just rediculous both sides usually i get spared one tho lol
3 graphics card (2x) looking at screen looks like im sloshed on a case of Jager
5 keyboard (2x) enter key and several other keys just decide to pop out
6 performance (daily) my inspiron 6000 runs almost as good which should definitely not be the case (T9300 and 4gigs vs celeron M 1.5 ghz and 2 gigs)
had it repaired at home even brought me a new fan+heatsink with in one week symptoms 1, 2, 3, all re-occurred called dell again and they told me it was being handled by their special division dono what that means lol and received back tonight and already media controls are flashing (haven't called yet) last time i called the rep i spoke with put me on with a supervisor who gave me their personal contact also
Mastershroom what did you do to get a replacement im just about to lose my mind with this thing I basically decked the 1535 completely out when i got it and have the 4year complete care accidental damage plan this laptop is driving me crazy. -
To qualify for a system replacement, you generally have to continue to have the same issues after Dell has tried multiple times to fix them. If I were you, I would try to get your stuff fixed via the normal tech support routes one more time, and if it doesn't make anything better, then you should submit an Unresolved Issues form. After I submitted that, I was put in contact with a senior resolutions specialist who had me send the laptop in to the Depot for one last attempt at repairs. After it came back and still didn't work properly, he set up my replacement, a Studio 1555 which has been nothing short of fantastic to this very day.
Good luck! -
you finally got it!! hey shroom, I'm running Windows7, and can't use the Fingerprint reader, any ideas?
-
Did you reinstall the driver and software for it? I never had the fingerprint reader on my old 1535, so I don't know what software it needs.

Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Again after another repair and same grabage happening was finally told they would replace mine and they said wouldnt gurantee it but they would recommend a new system.... dell called back said i would be getting a new system not a refurbished one but he couldnt tell me if it would be a 1555 or not! so i was told i would get a call in 4 business days to let me know the status very confused! are they still producing the 1535 ? and if its new wouldnt that be the 1555?
-
They haven't produced the 1535/1537 models in months. The 1555 is the only Studio 15 model currently produced. When my 1535 was replaced months ago, I got a refurbished 1555.
-
Congrats Mastershroom, I just read every single page on this thread and your replacement has been long overdue!
-
Heh, thanks for the belated support. I'm definitely loving this 1555, and it's had no real issues so far. *Knock on wood*
It's especially good considering my one-year warranty expired three days ago. ^_^ -
Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST

Run the diagnostics by holding the "Fn" key as you turn on the power. If this doesn't prompt the diags try holding the "D" key while turning the system on. It should launch into diagnostics and you should be able to tell exactly what the problem is so you can tell Dell.
Also, there is some very fine print in your paperwork that states if a technician comes out to work on your Dell system three times and the issues cannot be resolved you are entitled to a system exchange.
Now India tech support techs are rated on their ability to not send out parts, depot the system or send an exchange, so they will fight you tooth and nail. Be strong and demand what your warranty states about three service calls without resolution means exchange!
If you get a refurbished unit it is ok. A refurbished unit can be a system that was built, sat on a shelf for an extended period of time and never sold. By law, they have to test all parts for functionality before sending the "new" part out, and by law, must now tag it refurbished. Refurbished is actually better since new systems are not tested thoroughly and refurbished must be by law. -
Also, do not let Dell remotely take over your system - tell them you want to drive so you can learn as you go. I've heard horror stories about what Dell has done to people's software.
And never let them talk you into formatting your harddrive. Issues can be resolved without losing all your data.
I have HAD IT with this Studio 1535
