I have a 17R 7110 and wondering if the esata/USB port on the left REALLY does work?

I have never tried it and am real nervous about doing so, is it really safe to plug a USB dongle for a mouse or external speaker thingie (GoGroove Sona Wave 3) in there? I just need confirmation of what I am seeing here under the tech specs Ports listing:

New! Inspiron 17R Laptop Details | Dell

    (1) USB 2.0 with E-SATA & Power Share

    Thanks in advance! :D

Are you trying to ask whether or not generic USB devices will work in the combo port?

Because they will... these combo ports have been on many Dells for years now.

The combined port is always on if the computer is on sleep mode or running. The only way to turn it off is to shut down the notebook.
Anyway, it's as good as any other regular USB 2.0 port, feel free to use it.
Also, the power output while the computer is on is 500mA. When the computer is on sleep mode, its power output is 1000mA (1A), which is the standard output from a regular cell phone charger.

Thank you nitrobg, I appreciate the info, I had questioned being able to use it properly and didn't want to break anything. :)
