Hey all i have some questions.... i want to ask i might be all over the place when asking so please be bare with me they have prolly already been asnwered but want more specifics and stuff...

First off i use to have a dell Inspiron 1501 then i upgraded to the Inspiron 1545 which i know both of these 2 machines are a very basic low end computer

I just ordered a Dell Studio 1749 and its in the process of being built as we speak.. but with these newer computers technology im not very familer with.

    1. my first question i was wondering if anyone knew of the release date the Studio 1749 came out.

    2. is the I5 processor better then the duo core...

3.This is kind of a silly question but is the i5 only a single core

    4. my next question is the Studio 1749 a mid range computer or is it still considered low end..

    Here is my computers specifications

    Processor:
    NEW 2010 Intel® Core™ i5-430M 2.26GHz (2.53GHz Turbo Mode, 3M cache)

    Operating System:
    Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit

320GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Drive

    Memory:
    4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz

    Battery:
85 Whr Lithium Ion Battery (9 cell)

    Built-in Keyboard Options:
    Back-lit Keyboard

    LCD Panel:
17.3” Full HD (1080p) RGB LED Display with TrueLife™ and Camera

    Bluetooth:
Dell Wireless 365 Bluetooth Internal (2.1)

    Video Card:
ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5650, 1GB with TV Tuner

Thats basically all i know about it

also i was wondering if anyone knew how to hook this laptop to a tv it only has an HTDMI port and a VGA port and the tv tuner

I would also like to know if this was an ok system for games i play sims 3 on computer alot my inspiron 1545 did it amazingly my inspiron 1501 however could not so i didnt know if this new system played games ok

Its a high mid range machine. The graphics card is still good enough for most current games and the I5 processor is good, it is a dual core with threading that means its effectively got 4 cores. I have a similar one and the battery is good for 2+ hours and its very fast bit I have the I7 processor.
Its a good machine, mine is broken at the moment due to a bios update problem that I have listed but before that it was great.
Cant help with the TV stuff I watch on the machine.

Thanks for that information... thats odd that your computer was working just fine until you updated your bios and t hey just released the bios update on may 2.... one thing i have always learned about dell is they always push the bios update for there computers which i dont agree with because most of there bios updates are just feature enhancments... and some times they fix problems with battery or cd drives or touch pad ect but my moddo is if its not broke dont fix it... i never mess with the bios unless somthing is not working just right but i do alot of searching first to try to solve the problem and use the bios update as a last resort.

This BIOS v.04 also doesn't solve the fan issue, so I better to skip this one.

I like the JBL speaker system with the sub-woofer. Great sound for a notebook. I chose for the 1749 cause I like the i7 620M and HD5650 combination. It was a present for my wife.

There's only the fan issue. It turns on and off now and then every minute. This is very annoying when you're in a quiet room. Sometimes running idle it starts to run in hairdryer mode and stays that way till you restart.
