I just bought an 8400GM card on ebay - supposed to be brand new. Now I know it won't work with my motherboard because I have the Intel X3100.

Is there a place I can buy a different motherboard and swap into mine?
If so, what motherboard model would it be?

And yes I understand this will void my warranty

You can try ebay or Dell. But I think you could've sold your machine and bought a new one with then 8400GS for cheaper.

This will not be cheap, nor easy to do, but it's your choice.

Let me put it this way, getting this particular laptop was a bit of a mistake and one I kinda got myself into. I needed a laptop at the time and this was the closest to what I wanted on dell outlet.

You can still sell it tho, on ebay or on here. Then take that money, put in a little more and get yourself a nice machine with the right gpu. Given the huge discounts Dell is offering, you can easily get an Inspiron configured the way you want it for well under $1000.

It will be definitely cheaper and a lot less of a hassle than having to go thru a mobo swap. God knows what can go wrong during the work, and you're screwed.

yep.. the HP's with the $400 off coupons provide some ridiculous good deals on notebooks with dedicated graphics.. dv2500t for one..

motherboard swap will be a nightmare.

well its not THAT hard...however it will cost more money doing it this way and net you with no warranty where as for the same price if not less, you can sell your existing one and buy a whole new one.
