Did you follow the install guide that SouthernGirl posted? The required drivers/software must be downloaded and installed for everything to work correctly.

Sorry to nitpick, but did you follow the install order? What device(s) has the exclamation point next to it in your device manager?

if you have a yellow exclamation point, it means you have a driver conflict or no driver for that device. it looks like you forgot to download something. maybe the chipset.

I installed the notebook system software first, then chipset, then wireless, then ethernet, then video card, (maybe the audio) then the driver for the reader (Ricoh R5C832, under "Chipset" on the support site) am i missing something?

Under "other devices" I got a "Pci Device" with an exclamation point. I read somewhere it could be the modem

Here's the order I use for driver installation:

    Notebook System Software
    Intel Chipset
    Video
    Audio
    Input Drivers (keyboard/mouse)
    Modem
    Network Card
    Ricoh Card Reader

You can try removing the PCI device and then reboot. XP will attempt to find the driver.

kegobeer can you check what's under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers ? (In Device Manager). I see "Ricoh Memory Stick Host Controller", "Ricoh MMC Host Controller", "Ricoh xD-Picture Card Host Controller".. but I dont see any SD host controller (Which is the kind of card I got right now).. Please..

well I just found out another thing, when I download the driver and uncompress it, it creates 3 folders called MMC (Multimedia), XD (xD Pictures), and MS (Memory Stick) but nothing about SD. So the question is, ¿Where do I download the SD driver from?

    It is....

That's what I show as well. Do you show a Secure Digital Host controller??? Sorry but I didn't catch when that was added to the list of devices during my reinstall....

    Mark

fwiw... the driver identified for the SD Host controller is a Microsoft file sdbus.sys v6.0.4069.1

    I think you're correct....

This Dell page implies SP2 will have it...

I reinstalled using the Dell media and it has SP2 rolled-in already...

Sorry... that was Dell 'media' as in 'CD/DVD' not Dell Media Experience the software...

One source for Dell Media Experience is to request an Applications CD. Dell PN N7174 might work for you...

Great! Glad you solved your problem. This is in the same boat as the ATI catalyst drivers requiring .NET 1.1 to work.
