    I just got my Vostro 1400! (First impressions and pics)

    So moments ago I recived my 1400. Here are some pics to start things off:

    Next to my old Inspiron 1100:

    So, so far I really like it. It feels very solid and it does not attract fingerprints. The screen is not grainy and there is not lip over the optical drive. The battery does wobble a little and the fan seems to be running a lot, but those are things I can deal with. The vista experience score is 3.6. Any questions, feel free to ask...!

    That Vostro does look pretty nice.

    Are the Vostro's and the new Inspiron's made out of the same material? I know they didn't change the design at all. I saw some pics of a Vostro 1500, and it looked exactly like my Inspiron 1520.

    My 1400 came in today as well. One thing I did check was the battery. I got the 9-cell one and there is no play or looseness like others have mentioned. I must have got a good one :)

    so tempted to order one... is the fan thing really annoying? what about the way the battery sticks out--is that a pain?

    btw, did you receive the vista installation cd? or a vista serial number sticker on your laptop?

    Oh and how is the noise compared to 5150? .... 5150 drove me crazy with it's annoying loud fan.

    thats wierd because i have 2 gigs of ram and my 1500 only has a vista rating of 3.4 huh.

    Serial number yes, CD, no.

    Not as loud as my 1100... Not NEARLY as loud...

    So, I've been playing with it for awhile and I'm loving it! The fan does appear to run constantly, but its very quiet. I also played Battlefield 1942 on max settings, and it performed flawlessly. The battery really isn't anything I'm going to loose sleep over, but I do think I'm going to get a 6 cell battery for regular usage, and use the 9 cell for back up. I'm still getting used to Vista, but its not as bad as I was expecting...

    What kind of battery life do you get? I'm still debating whether to get the 1400 or the 1500, and a 6-cell or a 9-cell.
