After years of wanting a laptop I decided on this... couple of questions though.
- When should I expect to receive this? I ordered this 7/25 around 1:00 AM.
- How will games play on this?
- Really HOW much crap do they install on this? Is a full reformat neccessary?
Anyways, check it out! :headbang:
Intel® Core Duo Proc T2500 (2GHz/667MHz/2 X 1MB L2 Cache)
17 inch UltraSharp Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce Go 7900 GS
80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
Genuine Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005
8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
All totaled out with tax to be: $1,570.27
Thoughts? Feelings?

Congratulations on the notebook.
-You won't have any problems playing the latest games at max.
-Yes, a full reformat is necessary - you can uninstall all the stuff they preload on there, but there will always be bits left behind - save yourself the trouble and do a format using SG's guide stickied at the top of the forum. -
Hi, is that reformat process fairly fool-proof or have people been having trouble doing it?
-
as long as you are aware of all the things you need to do then you shouldn't have too many problems.
-
10-12 days
Depends on the game
you should always reformat and reinstall. -

oredered mine last wednesday and its comming today, according to UPS
-
amit84: What specs and how much did you pay?
-
1. I ordered mine last Friday and recieved it at 1:34 pm today!
2. You should be able to play almost anything out right now or coming out soon on high to near-high settings.
3. I intended to reformat from before I opened it and turned it on. However, when I turned it on, I was appauled at how sluggish it was and how much crap popped up upon boot up. I didn't spend five minutes on it yet and its currently sitting in front of me formatting the new XP partition. -
hey sorry for the late reply, i was about to start typing my response and the UPS truck pulled into my driveway, its a t2600 1 gig ddr 667 ram 7900gs go trulifescreen, the best

-I forget how long it took me to get mine, i'd say about a week or a day or two more.
-The only games I have been playing are source games, namely HL2 and CSS. According to the source stress test in CSS I get 79 FPS. I have opened the console to view the FPS in games and it ranges from like 45-100+.
-As for 3, I turned on my laptop and had 71 processes running before i opened a single program. I forget how much CPU and memory were being used but it was ludicrous. After reformatting I am running itunes, internet explorer and AIM and have 37. Take it from me, a total techno-phobe, just follow SG's guide and you will be all set. -
Thanks for the posts guys!
Yeah I definately plan on reformatting for sure. I already downloaded all the drivers so it'll be a quicker process.
I'll be sure to post benchmarks of games and a review of the lappy when I get it! -
I ordered my E1705 the other day... It has the T2600 2.16GHz Core Duo, 2GB, DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm, 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS , 100GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, 17 inch UltraSharp TrueLife Wide-screen WUXGA, 8X DVD+/-RW Drive, SoundBlaster Advanced HD Audio,
the larger battery, and a few other small accessories and I paid $1480.53 after coupons... all you have to do is call dell and keep on them about it and they will stack coupons... -
i thought about the re-formatt, ,,but have decided against it...what i will do, is buy a sata 7200 rpm hard drive from newegg, and take the one out of my inspiron that came with the computer,,,, install the 7200 rpm drive, install windows, and thats it.. when i sell the notebook, i will install the 5400 rpm drive that came with it, and keep the 7200 rpm drive, or sell it too.
but here is one note, there are some hard drives coming out soon that will be vista friendly,, if i remember , they will have larger cache , or something that will make them run faster with vista, i will wait for that hard drive. -
Alright, to answer all your questions: Shipping- Its almost always a few days before there estimated delivery date. Reformating:I didn't reformat mine, there was not ALOT of bloatware on it, however, I sort of regret it. Thats why I am reformating now (well, I just did) with the reformat guide that is on this forum. Gaming- I have a really similar system to you (actually, its a little lesser than your system) and I can pretty much rock any game thats out there. You will encounter a little bit of lag on certain games during certain moments, but you will with almost ANY system.
I just ordered an E1705! Couple questions...
