    I just made a $1157 order on a Dell XPS M1530.

When I look back at the order, it says the tax is only about $40, but when I was chcking out it said $90 (which is appropriate for California)... the total is about $50 less when I look at "order status" for it... so I'm wondering,, is this something I should be concerned/happy about? Or is it just a fluke in numbers and Im being charged correctly

Also, are they supposed to charge you once your order is placed? I noticed my available balance already reflects the charge

Good choice. Obviously charging incorrect tax is not good.

Thanks guys, I just clarified what happened with them and youre right they dont charge until the order is placed. However, they forward to the bank and verify that you have funds and can be charged, so my bank counted that as a charge that has not been taken out yet but is ready to be taken out.

I emailed them about this and they upgraded my shipping to next day delivery.. awesome! Except my shipment is going to be delayed becuase Midnight Blue is in shortage

When I ordered my M1730, I was concerned about the sales tax. I wanted to pay the rate based on my billing address rather than my shipping address. Both are in the same state but different counties. I needed it to be shipped to my work address so I didn't have to worry about missing a shipment. Dell said that their system didn't have the ability to do that but they did offer me gift cards to make up the difference.

Sales tax is based on the address you gave them. If they do business in your state then it's taxed. I'm in Hawaii and didn't know Dell did business here.

If they sell to schools in HI then they charge sales tax.
