Yeah, I'm a noob on these forums, but please answer my questions. Here are the stats:

    Inspiron E1505
Intel Core Duo processor T2050 (2MB Cache/1.60GHz/533MHz FSB)
    Genuine Windows XP Home
    80GB2 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 Dimm
53 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
    24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive
256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400 HyperMemory

    Total shipped w/tax = $762.00

    1. How many RAM slots are in this laptop?
    2. What kind of RAM do I get? PC 4200 SO-DIMM?
    3. How is the RAM usually set up in the laptop? If there are 2 slots, is it 512 each for my Gig of ram, or is it one Gig stick?
    4. Is the laptop really this quiet or are my fans broken? It seems to get pretty hot on the right underneath side of the laptop.

    Thanks a bunch!

    1) 2 slots
    2) any DDR2 SO-DIMM
    3) Its best to have 2 equal sticks but 1 stick will run fine (it will probably be shipped with 2x512)
    4) not sure, sorry.

    4) I just got an E1505 too. The area you are talking about is where the hard drive is located, that's the first part to get warm on my computer too. And yes, the fan is very quiet. Although I haven't had mine reach its peak speed yet, it has been on the 2nd highest speed so far, and is still pretty quiet, just a nice soothing whirr. :D

Expect your RAM area to be the hottest on your laptop. It is located on the bottom side and in the center. This causes it to get no air or ventilation at all.

Yeah, the e1505 is very smooth as far as the fan and the heat issue is concerned. i can keep it on my laps comfortably for an hour or so. sometimes the notebook is so quiet that it makes me think whether or not the fans are in there or not.
