I feel like I didn't get as good of a deal as I thought and also the thing is the specs as not as good as some. For ex, Wireless is not N and warranty and etc...
What do you think? Do you think it was worth it?
$1,361.06 After tax and everything.
-
Just cancel it, as long as the order does not ship there is no cancellation fee. I am pretty sure, just double check with dell
-
What's wrong with the warranty? I wouldn't go past 2 years in-home, personally. You can always upgrade the wireless later if you want -- though I doubt you'll ever notice any problems.
-
The 1520 does have an 802.11n option.
-
Is that price AFTER tax? (If you have tax in your state) . Thats a good deal if its after tax, but before..eh its decent. You can check my post in Notebook and Tech Bargains forums about a -$225 coupon. You can try cancelling, don't think dell has any penalties.
If that is BEFORE tax (or you have NO tax in your state) you should be able to get a 9 cell battery -
Well, this is my first laptop and I just want to hear from veteran laptop users whether this is a good deal or not.
-
You should definately get the Intel n card!
-
That would cost me more. I seen some people pay only $1300 ! with same specs + more.
-
You have to be really lucky, or really observant for the coupon deals. I had $500 off in coupons, and shipped it to a tax-free state (Montana) but both of those coupons expired or maxed out within 2 days of my ordering.
-
Look at my specs for example... I saved over $600 on mine, and my price is still really high because I ordered Microsoft Word and also a 3 year Warranty (covers accidental and theft).
So, just remember that. Maybe I should have put the price without the cost of Microsoft Word in my sig... it looks like I got ripped, lol. -
I got the two years in-home, with accidental damage protection. But I didnt think it covered loss/theft. -

The warranty does not cover theft...it just helps you track down your laptop if it is stolen with LoJack's service for which your warranty has paid a certain number of years depending on what plan you got...if ur laptop is stolen and LoJack is erased off of that laptop, Dell won't replace it. At the most, LoJack will refund u the cost it took for that service agreement for not being able to track down ur laptop...
-
wow i'm glad i didn't get the 1520...that looks REALLY thick -
NM misread.
-
I'm *pretty sure* CompleteCare covers theft as well, afterall CompleteCare is insurance on the device and property insurance covers theft...
Granted I'm not a Dell Rep or anything, nor have I asked directly about it, but it does make sense, and that's my impression after reading the descriptions. -
I'm pretty sure it doesn't cover theft:

Although, the lojack thing should increase your chance of recovering it if it's stolen. -
If you get the 3yr/4yr warranty, then your laptop comes with software named "Lojack" as some other people have mentioned.
I found this on their website...
"If the Service purchased includes the CRI OR ASP Theft Recovery Service, then in the event of a theft:
a. The Customer must complete and submit an official police report with law enforcement in the jurisdiction in which the computer was stolen, and obtain a. record of this report, including the police file number within seven (7) days of discovery of the theft and in no case more than fourteen (14)
days after the actual date of theft.
b. The Customer must submit a complete Theft Report, including the police file number, to CRI within seven (7) days of discovery of the theft and in no case more than fourteen (14) days after the actual date of theft.
c. The Theft Report is available by logging-in through the Customer account Online, or it will be mailed to the Customer upon a request sent to [email protected], or by calling 1-604-608-4930.
d. ASC and CRI OR ASP will not be obligated to provide location or system status information, assist in a recovery or provide other support unless the theft has been reported in accordance with the procedures described above and as established by ASC from time to time Online.
e. If the Service purchased includes a CRI OR ASP Money- Back Guarantee, such guarantee is subject to the Money- Back Guarantee Terms and Conditions available Online. f For Customers who have purchased the Computrace LoJack for Laptops Service, the Customer may receive only
one Theft Recovery Service per purchase, irrespective of the length of Service Term. The Service will immediately terminate upon recovery of the Customer Computer, and ASC will not be obligated to refund the Customer any portion of the purchase price paid for the Service applicable to the
balance of the Service Term." -

The version you download off the internet is presumably purely software which is easily circumvented - e.g. by reformatting the disk. However, I think Dell have incorporated it in the BIOS which might make it quite a lot harder to get around - especially if the BIOS is password protected. I guess it would require changing the BIOS chip. -
Afterthought - I do wonder if Lojack mainly recovers the PC from the gullible person who bought it second hand from the thief rather than the thief him/her self. Still - I suppose that still makes life harder for the thieves as they can only sell the machines to people who have no way to trace them.
-
I agree, cancel and get an HP pavilion instead... you'lll get an HDMI port too and you won't have to hunt around for coupons...
The 1520 is just too thick.
I kind of regret ordering my 1520
