but I have spent an hour searching and i can't find it. I have a Vostro 1400 with what i suspect is a grainy screen. i know that there is a software download that gives the screen information. could someone please post a link to it? and could someone tell me which screen i *should* want to have. i have already spoken to dell and they had me update drivers and my BIOS (which did improve battery life) and once i demanded a new screen they said i'd have to send it in and have it replaced. they wouldn't even let me request a screen brand. i was really fed up with the crap and i changed my wallpaper and it *looked* better so i canceled the shipment. i don't know whether i'm overreacting or just real persnickety. all i know is that i want the best for what i paid for.

To find the manufacturer of your LCD go to : Device Manager > Monitors > Generic PnP Monitor > Properties > Details > Hardware IDs > Monitor\ MODEL_NUMBER

If it is really bad, then ask for a replacement. Hopefully with a bit of luck you’ll end up with a good screen (maybe after few tries ;) ) Macbook is nice, but too expensive and you don't get all the nice features you can with V1400 (dedicated gfx, built in cam, remote...)

    LMFAO... 'shoulda got a macbook'...

Enjoy all the joys Apple dumps all over you're life when you invest into their 6 month life span electronics.

I got an iBook with a defect issue, they had a recall on the machine, when I called to have it all done, Apple told me it wasn't there problem. I was told the same by 4 different representatives. Since that lovely adventure 3 or so odd years ago I never purchased an Apple product again.

Maybe that's a true story that'll leave the respected sour taste in your mouth about their crap.

    Also,

you said you're screen is grainy on the top corner? That's impossible, the hole screen would be grainy, not just one part. You rather got a screwed up Windows install or a defect. Just ask for a replacement.

well, it's the worst at the top corner, and the top in general
    the taskbar is fine.

i would do the replacement, but if i have the LG, isn't that the best that you can get? the macbook comment was made out of desperation, i would never betray myself like that. i had an imac G4 when i was 9 and it was a POS. i can't send it in because i have to use it everyday for school, not college, but college prep (and my myspace addiction)
