    Hey guys,

I had a year old Studio 17 stolen from my home. I know who took the laptop but need proof before the police will enter his home.

The laptop had Microsoft OneCare installed on it as well as on my desktop computer. In the OneCare interface on my desktop, I can see whenever windows shuts down on my stolen laptop.....it tells me "last contact with this computer was on <date and time>."

The bozo who stole my laptop did not power it up for 2 weeks. Now it is in use and they obviously have not entered my PW protected side and are using the Guest side because they have not uninstalled OneCare from that machine.

I do have the Express Service Code and the Service Tag and have reported to Dell that this machine was stolen. I've also called Microsoft OneCare who said they couldn't ping my machine.

Surely there is something I can do. If I can see on my end whenever my stolen computer was last shut down, then why on earth can't someone help me retrieve the IP address that's currently being used so I can identify it's location?

I am filing formal charges in the morning and hoping I don't get sued by this moron for falsely accusing him because I can't establish proof. So far, there has only been a police report filed but no charges.

Any suggestions? Being able to see everytime someone is using your beloved machine but not having proof of its location is downright maddening.

My pistol was stolen also but it has been temporarily replaced with one of my dad's. Not sure what the heck that has to do with me tracking down my laptop. ???

He turned off the firewall trying to disable OneCare, but I can still see every time he logs off Windows. What a piece of work.
