Make sure the system is in your name (go to Dell support and input your address, name, and the computer serial numbers) though the ownership transfer pages of the site.

A few days later (give the system time to update), you have to call Dell and get those CDs. We can't legally provide them for you.

If you can't get the CD:
    1) The sticker on the bottom of the laptop is a personal license for the software.
    2) Get a friend that has the same type of OS (Pro, Home, SP1 or SP2) and install XP using your personal key. If you can't get a CD, contact Microsoft for help. If you provide them with a valid license number they can probably replace the media for a small charge. These methods are perfectly legal as you have your own license.
    3) All the Dell drivers on up on the website, so you can download them there.
    4) Other Dell software that you may or may not want (that originally came with the system) will have to be obtained from Dell. No if, ands, or buts and I don't know how to legally get around that.
