Hi folks,
I have an I9200 with which I recently joined the "Dell 17" LCD Nightmare Club".![]()
Anyway, after a very long and drawn out situation, I'm a super-happy camper with my brand new LG WUXGA with zero dead or stuck pixels.
My nightmare lasted for months as I tried several used screens much to my disatisfaction.
I ended up with a mistakenly ordered WXGA that I could not return.
I also have a box of 92/300 chassis parts that I bought cheap long ago.
The project: Stuff the WXGA in the spare LCD bezel assembly and make a portable external monitor that matches my laptop.
I have an inverter, but I will have to buy an LCD connector off Ebay.
I figure I will have to disect the LCD/inverter cable and figure out how to remap it to either the VGA or HDMI output on my laptop, right?
I would have to introduce the correct voltage and amperage to the external monitor. (I have about 50-60 different power adapters; practically any wattage you can think of for small appliances).
I have a dozen or so VGA cables to putz with for trying to map it out.
I figure I would set up my old crappy desktop to work on the monitor mapping on in case I fry the video card. (The "test Desktop" is just a clunker I built, and I have a box of old outdated video cards.)
Does anyone have any specific info that might help me?
Thanks.

If you haven't done so already, start by using Google. Try keywords like "LCD inverter", "laptop inverter", etc. I was looking for inverters a while ago and I stumbled upon quite a few how-to guides. I'm sure you'll find at least one that deals with powering a laptop LCD.
Good luck! -
Well, I did go Googly, and found out that I need a "controller"- a bit of circuitry that will convert the signal from analog to digital ( or something like that).
Seeing as how I can't fit that into the laptop lid with the screen, there is no point. The screen was possibly going to end up taking residence in the lid of my aluminum laptop case.
So now it's looking like the next best thing ( and most cost effective) is to purchase a Philips 17" wide screen monitor or TV with a busted screen.
They can be had on Ebay for much less than a new controller unit.
Go figure.
I need LCD help from the experts for a project...
