My Dell Inspiron 8500's video card broke down and I would like to connect it to my Dell Dimension monitor in order to view my files and transfer them to an external hard drive. I can't seem to pull it off though. Can some one give me a step by step guide? I did once with the help of Dell Tech Support, but that was a while back when I hard Dell Support. Thanks.

I am not sure about the 8500, but for just about every newer dell you can press and hold the fn key and press F8. This will send the image from the laptop to the external monitor.

oh snap. No video theres not much you can do. You could always take out the hard drive and put it in a case and use it as an external. Then you can transfer your files to our other computer/
