My name's not Vick but I pulled the trigger on this puppy from the Dell Outlet.
    $809 bucks
plus maybe 70 for 2 gigs of ram from Newegg.
Good deal? I think the Video Card and Processor are top notch. Im familiar with Dell outlet laptops having bought one less than a month ago for my girlfriend, and they come pretty much brand new. Only a possible replaced component before being reshipped. No scratches, no dents, and you turn them on and they boot up like a first time boot.
I figure all this below for 800 bucks when Im used to windows xp on my home PC and current laptop. And I have plans for it, Im heavy into media.

    1 Inspiron 1520 Notebook: Intel Core 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz/800Mhz FSB/4MB cache
1 15.4 inch WSXGA+ Notebook Screen with TrueLife
    1 9 Cell Primary Battery
    1 8X DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability
    1 MEDIADIRECT 3.3 Software
1 Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
    1 3945 802.11a/g Wireless Mini Card
    1 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
1 120 GB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM)
    1 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz (2 DIMMs)

thats what I wanted to hear.

I forgot the monitor, its the highest resolution available. I just have to wait the 3-4 days for it to get here.

    (edit)
WSXGA (1680 x 1050), next to highest. But I think highest for the 15.4 laptops.

    Oh, Dude!

I just got nearly the identical system, in a Vostro 1500. I thought I got a smokin' deal at $949. Mine came with the T7300, 2GB RAM (but I upgraded to 3GB anyway), a 160GB disk, the WSXGA+, 256MB 8600GT, integrated webcam, A/B/G WiFi.

Still, that's very similar, and I would have taken yours at that price over mine. When I priced mine out, it was $1460. So, I figured that I saved $500 by going to the Outlet.

Good deal, hope it works well for you!

The LG WSXGA+ looks stunning, BTW. Make suer your fonts are set on 96dpi for best quality, FWIW.

Yes, a bit over $800 for that spec'd 1520 is a great deal.

But IMO, buying thru outlet is like going to Vegas. You really don't know what you're gonna get. Maybe you'll luck out and get a virtually new one like the laptop you bought a little while ago, or maybe you're inheriting someone elses nightmare. I sincerely hope that not to be the case, but check out the screen once you get it and report out here.

The upgraded display is awesome if it's a well made one (like LG for example), but if it's one of the many crappy screens people have been returning, we've seen many cases where Dell has decided they were not technically defective and have sent them out as refurbished.

Myself- I'd never buy thru outlet. Already feel like it's enough of a crapshoot even buying new- lol.

Great deal, I just got my Vostro 1500 from UPS. I mean like 20 minutes ago. Bought a refurb, and its absolutely perfect. No defects at all. I'm running 3dmark06 on it right now to have a point of refrence to compare to.
Oh, mine was $649. I'll have to put the specs in my sig.

edit: 3dmark just finished 3312 with no tweaking, over clocking, driver updates, etc. Not bad, not bad at all.

My vostro 1400 from the outlet is in nearly perfect condition. Although it is a refurb, it looked brand new when I received it, no dust or fingerprints anywhere. The only things "wrong" I could find were some divits near the dvd-rw, and the cover over the CPU was installed a bit awkwardly, and I had to reseat it.

    You sure about that?

After my horror story two years back, I'll never do that again...

ps: There are good deals on Vostro 1500s out there. I got mine brand new for $750 + tax....

1.6 GHz Core 2 Duo that included 2GB of RAM (installed), and the 128MB Nvidia GeoForce video card.

    XP was optional. :)

I forgot about this tread since my original reply. The laptop came out perfect. Just like the one I already bought (1521) for my girlfriend. Refurbs look great. The screen looks delicious. Ive played my HDFiles on it, both in Apple quicktime and BeyondTV and just plain media player. Files as big as 1920x1080 1080i look grea in the 1680 window.
The only issue I had was a little bit of freezing which I have attributed to 1 gig which I am going to fix on my way home tonight with a stop at Frys, picking up some OCZs for 59.99. Ill pop those in that puppy.

That is a great deal! I've bought 3 computers (2 laptops and 1 desktop) from outlet and have been 110% satisfied with them. They came in new with a bright red "refurbished" sticker...lol.

I've never had to call in support for anything yet.*knock on wood*.

Good luck with you new machine. :)

I hear you dude. Yeah some of those doubters dont know too much about the dell outlet. I didnt know anything until at work some of those Outlet desktops showed up. And I didnt see any difference. So I bought 2 laptops in a month and both came with zero defects. But for 40% savings, you cant beat that.

Dell refurbs carry same warranty as new ones. I think that's pretty good deal.
