In mid April, I had a problem with my Inspiron 1520. After 2 shipments of replacement memory from Dell, it was determined that the motherboard needed to be replaced. I was told the only way to do this was to ship my computer to Dell. I did this, and the motherboard was replaced, but the new motherboard had a downgraded video card attached. When I first bought the computer, I paid extra to upgrade the video card to the 8600 GT but now I have the 8400 GS which does not perform as well. This was unacceptable.
I then began talking to Dell customer service again to try to resolve this. Because of Dell's mistake, I thought it was reasonable to ask for the motherboard to be changed in-home, but they told me this was not possible. They did not even seem to understand why I was unhappy with the situation.
After another round of shipping, Dell then shipped my machine to the wrong address 2 times, adding to the delays. It is now June 20th and this issue has been ongoing for over 2 months. I just got my computer back from Dell yesterday only to find that it still has the downgraded video card. The note from the tech indicated that the system was checked in diag and everything works fine. There is a serious problem with Dell's methodology if the techs do not check the customer's specifications as part of their normal routine, if they simply replace parts with whatever they happen to have lying around.
I have never had an experience with any company that has been close to this bad, and the way this issue is handled starting now would have to go extremely well for me to consider buying from Dell in the future.
It has been over 2 months and I cannot afford to be without my computer any longer. I need
to have a computer that meets or exceeds the original specifications without sending this computer away. I also would like to know what Dell will do in addition to this as compensation for this ridiculous situation so that I will consider buying from Dell in the future.
If you do not have the authority to have my video card replaced without sending in my computer, or to offer compensation that is significant enough for the severity of the situation, please forward this request to someone who does.
Thank you.
