I stoped by my local Circuit City today and checked out some of their laptops on display. Compared to my Dell E1505, the screens of the other laptops (Sony, Toshiba, HP, etc) seemed better. The first thing I noticed was that the other 15.4" laptops didn't have the tiny fonts/icons as my E1505, yes most of those laptops had the screen resolution at 1200x800 or something like that, but the text still looked crisp and sharp compared to the fuzzy look of my E1505 when setting it at the same resolution. Something else I noticed was that the other laptops also seemed to have brighter screens, even brighter than my E1505's WSXGA! I could view those laptops from different angles and they still looked decent, but my E1505 only looks good from the front view. I hope I didn't get a faulty unit, I still love my E1505's performance, but just kind of disappointed at the screen after comparing it to others.

The reason you have a "fuzzy look" when lowering the resolution is because you got the WSXGA screen. LCD screens display best at their native resolution, and for the WSXGA screen, it's 1680x1050. When you lower the resolution, it will look fuzzy. Those laptops at the store likely all had WXGA resolutions, and so their text was crisp and sharp because they were displaying at their native resolution. That's also your culprit for having "tiny fonts/icons" - your high screen resolution. I personally love my WSXGA screen - I don't think the fonts are too small at all.
