So I ordered my insperion 1705 a couple weeks ago... the day after I ordered it they took out the 7900gs option, at this point I knew the new ones were going to be coming soon.

Today when I looked I saw that the new ones are there but there is not real dedicated card for any of the insperion series (and the XPS series is way overpriced)

So I was wondering If I did the right thing in not waiting... or are they going to get a line of dedicated cards for the 1721?

They always remove/add features and 7900GS appears/disappears all the time. You can have any feature added by calling their sales people.

I think you did the right thing. I was about to sell my fully loaded 1705 but will wait until DELL comes up with something better.

Right now the 8600GT is the most powerful DX10 GPU currently available (though the 8700 is around the corner). I *think* it's performance is on par with the 7900GS.

I've looked at the newer models as well, and they all seem to come with some pretty weak video cards. The 1720 on their web site that sells for about $1300 comes with a really weak intel accelerator video card. So glad I bought mine with the 7900GS. I'm sure to upgrade to a descent video card on the 1720 is going to cost you a good $200 more...which is being optimistic. You can by an E1705 on ebay with a 7900GS for $900 if you wait for a good deal...than buy the 7950GTX for about $300 and have a killer setup. The E1705 with the 7900GS seems like the smarter choice in my book.
