I have a Latitude d800 15.4" wuxga now. I went though a big study at the end of last year trying to decide on a new computer. It has to have a matte screen.

I concluded that a d830 wsxga could be ok - the screen would be better than the messed up screen I have now (with colored lines and wide faded streaks) but not a huge improvement in display technology.

So I decided to wait a while hoping for the next big thing in matte screens and maybe the led backlit e-series is it, but I'm not seeing a wsxga format. Am I missing something? The 'densest' screen seemed to be a wxga+. I hope I'm wrong!

    Thank you.

Matte screens are a thing of the past, old technology as you will. Most manufacturers don't make any matte screens at all anymore. Dell offers them only as the lowest resolution because there is so little demand for them to begin with and if they had to split those few matte customers between 3 different resolutions it wouldnt be worth while to stock them.

Actually....matte screens just target a different market...any custom laptop or mobile workstation is offered with a matte screen, so I would suggest the HP 8510p or Lenovo Thinkpad T61.

They are not past. Business users prefer matte and majority of business models have matte screen as option or even as only option.

I prefer matte myself. Glossy is okay but if you're sitting by a window, no good.

    Thank you for your comments.

    1) So is it right then, as nizzy1115 seems to say, that the most pixels offered by dell on the new Latitude e-series is the wxga+. It seems so odd since as wojwoda and SkeeteRX8 noted, matte screens are a target market especially for business, and the Latitude is dell's business offering. If it is to be the d-series replacement...to do any 'side by side' work the higher resolution is practically required.

    2) Is the led backlight really going to brighten the screen as I'm hoping?

Thank you again for taking the time to reply.
