My Vostro is only 6 miles away at the local Fedex hub and I can't touch it until Monday, because Fedex won't let me pick it up since their drivers have to make a delivery attempt.
Give me a break, DHL will let you intercept your package at the hub regardless of delivery status. It's already been unloaded from the bulk container and is just sitting there for delivery. Oh the counter employee has to walk back into the warehouse and grab my package. It would take less than 5 minutes to locate it.
DHL > * they're having growing pains, but they will go out of their way to accomodate customers and actually take the time to locate a package.
I thought Dell shipps through DHL anyways? I would have had my laptop TODAY.
-
UPS and DHL are the same way so I fail to see why you are getting so upset. It's only a laptop
-
That's too bad man. I hate companies who have such strict policies for stupid reasons. Reminds me of a page i read about nonsense laws in america, like you cant wear wigs on a tuesday or stuff like that, hah.
-
I was counting on DHL, I didn't know Dell would ship it Fedex. And I leave for a trip Monday evening, I was counting on this weekend to be able to do a fresh OS install and setup my apps. -
that sucks... so was that supposed to be next day delivery? If it was so much for that lol.
-
-
Dell does not pay for laptops to get delivered on Saturday so you knew darn well that you wouldn't get your laptop today . -
-
It's only "stupid" until someone steals your package, then you will be mad at Fedex.
When Fedex makes a delivery attempt they leave a slip with your numbers, etc etc. It helps to prove that you live at the delivery address, and have access to it.
Some people are just starting to complain about everything now. Get over it.
First we have hundreds of people complaining about the M1330 being late, but they saw the ESD when ordering and still complain after placing the order.
Then they complain that Dell is not releasing enough info, then complain again when they do release the information. Because they do not like what they hear.
Some people are even complaining that Dell shipped their laptop too soon!!! Come on.
I know that is Dell and not FedEx but the same point applies. Stop complaining about every little thing, I mean this is getting stupid now. Complain about important things, not that Fedex is trying to save us money in shipping costs, and improving security.
Maybe DHL's policy is one of the reasons they have a bad rep among people I know. I would rather get my package un-harmed and on time than being being able to go in and pick it up myself. -
The only way somebody is going to steal my package at the hub is if a theif magically knows I'm waiting for a package and somehow steals my tracking number and the Fedex employee is too stupid to NOT pull the ID out of the wallet and check it.
In the last 10 years of high volume shipments, I have never had a package lost at the hub.
Dell promised a ship date of Aug 2nd, Overnight. They shipped it Aug 3rd, it was in boxing since late last Monday. Now I'll have to rush Monday to get my laptop setup before my flight and is if Fedex gets it hear early enough. -
Maybe they have a contract with DELL on this subject, where they are obliged to give the package only and only on the location which was given through DELL.
-
I assume all your high volume shipments go through DHL exclusively for your comment to be relevant? Because FedEx and UPS it would seem do not allow package intercepts.
Anyway, I am trying to point out that FedEx does these things for a reason. It's not just some made up rule the thought up to piss off their customers.
And it is hardly their fault that Dell shipped your system a day late. You have four weeks for posting about Dell not meeting their ESD's, and promises so maybe you are a little to blame too. You needed the system desperately for Monday and relied on Dell to ship? -

I ordered a moniter from Dell. They shipped in 2 days with an expected delivery of Wednesday the 7th (the same day my 1520 is due to ship - yeah right) Anyway watching the tracking number I found it would arrive in only 2 days-Friday the 3rd. So I left work early to wait for it as nobody is home during the days. Waited waited waited. Called FX. They can't tell me anything except that it will be delivered today. I was supposed to pick my wife up from work at 3pm. I made her wait until item was delivered. I called FX again. No info available, they did say the latest it would arrive was 6pm. I waited until 6 and left to get my wife, who was very tolerent. Checking the tracking site this morning it said no attempt was made. Dell requires an adult signature and nobody will be home MO or TU so the item will go back.
I'm out a day of work, I inconvenienced my wife and I didn't get my screen. FedEx couldn't give me any information, couldn't communicate with the driver (I believe that was a lie so they wouldn't bother the drivers with pesky customers requests). I hope that someday if my laptop is ever delivered, they will use DHL. Couldn't be worse. -
Its a security concern and they are doing it for their own and dells safety. If they let you come pick it up without ever coming out to the address. They'll never know if the address ever existed or if your just some 14yr old that ordered a product on their grandmas credit card with no approval.
I know what your going to say. They can verify your id and all that but honestly the best way is to go to the address. -
I've had problems with all three. I used to order from amazon alot and would get the same delivery guy, but one day this woman was filling in and she left my package underneath some stairs on her first attempt to make the delivery. I live in an apt. and anyone who read the note she left on the slip could've gotten my package. Then I had a guy from Fedex knock on my door and drop my package before I answered the door less than 30 seconds later. I opened the door and he was halfway to his delivery truck. That was his first attempt as well. Then DHL delivered my package to the wrong address. I get a discount through my company and dell put the name of the company plus my address on the package. They scratched out my address and delivered it to the company. It took two additional days for them to get it back from the company and deliver it to my house.

I have had a similar experience with FedEx. I ordered some cell phones from LetTalk.com. They came a few days early at Fed Ex. But I noticed that they were not out for delivery the day after they got to the hub. So I called up FedEx to see what the deal was and they told me that I could not come by and pick it up unless I had someone from LetsTalk call and give them permission to give me the package. So they did it for me. Once they did that, I was cleared to come by and get the package. Once I got there, I had to give them the tracking number as well as my ID. Then they gave it to them.
I think FedEx will intentionally hold a package if the person paid for a certain shipment option (If the get the package at the hub the 2nd day after it was shipped, they will hold it to 5th day if that is what their supplier tells them the customer paid for).
Rep if this helpful! -
I have had problems with all 3 and none of them are perfect but I would rather have Fedex and ups over DHELL
-
I have had nothing but great service from DHL. Knowing my luck, I would end up getting it Fed-Exed and it would be stuck at the Hub...like my cel phones were.
-
I'm just messing with you, no hard feelings! -
How can you Intercept a package when its shipped with DHL? I really want to know how.
OK ill elaborate, I ordered 7/26 with an ESD 8/13 but last friday (8/3) dell shipped my notebook!!! 10 days before!!! this is sweet, but the bad is that im going to leave town.... I leave 8/7 and the notebook arrives 8/8 so:
1. should I intercept my notebook in other place? plz tell me how
2.Is there a way to change my shipment option (to next day)? so I can recive my notebook 8/6...
funny really not happy about early shipmet, cause I return home 8/12 so its like nothing changed... Also I would like to bring my notebook in my trip... -
i actually prefer dhl and their little yellow van. They always seem to ship things early and in the afternoon. Fedex by evening and UPS is at night.
-
Fedex morning and UPS morning here DHL afternoon

I've not been crazy about DHL since the time that they tried to tell me that they'd "lost" my 42" LCD they were supposed to deliver.
They left me a note the first time they came by to deliver. I called the driver and told him my address. "HEY, you're the guy with the LCD!" was his response, which I thought sounded strangely enthusiastic. He says he'll come the next afternoon.
I wait the next afternoon, he never calls or delivers. I call their distribution center. They tell me the item is "lost" and I'm going to have to file a claim. I tell them that is a load of bullshorts, and they'd better cough it up. They send me around to the manager who says the same thing for about 10 minutes.
My response: Look, I know the name and phone number of your guy who was way too excited about my LCD delivery. You have to scan the item in any time it gets moved from one location to another (receive item, hub, vehicle, dist. center, etc.) and there is no way you could actually "lose" the item unless someone took it. Miracle of miracles, they "found" it in about 5 minutes.
I am of the opinion that they tend to be less than truthful when it comes to their "lost" items policies. -
I personally do not think things should be shipped with the product clearly displayed on the box. It's just asking for trouble. Like the Dell boxes just scream "look at me I contain a $2000 laptop!!
A nice plain brown box would be nice. -
Nice one...glad you got the TV though.
Just please do not bypass language filters next time -
Oops!
Apologies are in order. I sometimes forget not everyone was raised by sailors on the high seas!
But in case anyone couldn't tell... I have no love/respect for DHL. -
DHL CS told me that Dell requires a delivery attempt before I can pick it up at the hub. Kind of stinks because my office is right next to the hub. I guess I will just have to wait until Tuesday to go pick it up.
I don't think it's just a FedEx, UPS or DHL thing, more like a Dell thing. -
-
I've heard some pretty bad things about DHL myself and have never had to deal with them before.. This is the most expensive single item I am having shipped in a long time and here I am with a shipping company I've heard the worst things about. Please DHL just this once don't screw it up!
-
I ordered a computer part, the dhl guy game be the wrong package! It was a bunch of polo shirts in a box! LOL
I had to call dhl and get the guy to come back! How hard is it to give the correct package to the person ? -
So for this one experience A+
-
OK DHL got a mark in my good books when they delivered my laptop in perfect condition, and very early.
Today they got a mark in my bad books because they delivered my laptop bag. The box was pretty much mangled, and open. Also it took 6 days to get from Ohio which is a little long.
But what ticked me off was that the driver did not even ring the door bell. He just snuck up to the door left it there and left. I only knew the package was there because I got a SMS text as soon as he got back to his truck and marked it delivered.
Damage happens, and in my experience with UPS they will normally ring the bell wait for you to answer and show you the box, let you inspect the contents for damage before they leave.
Luckily it was just a bag (which is meant to be rugged anyway) so it was un-damaged. But they did not know it was a bag, for all they knew it was a monitor or god forbid my laptop. -
I am so glad that Fedex is going to be bringing me my 1330
I thought UPS was bad, Fedex just went for the gold
