Hi guys, I have a vostro 1500 with a 8400m gs and i wanna upgrade it to a 8600m gt, I am from Canada, and i cannot find it in the dell.ca accessories section, I cannot find it in ebay eitheranyone know where i can buy it? or am i out of luck? I've tried to check out in the US dell.com but it doesn't let me change the shipping place to Canada...

I believe it is integrated.. you would have to replace your whole motherboard.
-
You cannot purchase laptop video cards. Tough luck.
Only option is to get another laptop, or if you purchased your laptop within the past month, you can get a refund. -
You can't replace graphics cards in laptops.
Unless you are talking about when you are ordering? Because I'm pretty sure there's you can choose to install a 256mb 8600gt (+$100).
You can return ure laptop, or sell it and buy one with the graphics card you want. -
Dell offers upgrades in this website but the only problem is that they dont deliver to canada

Hey everyone! THE GRAPHICS CARD ON THE DELL VOSTRO IS USER REPLACEABLE!!!
Please for the love of god, check your facts. Dell has been using proprietary connections on their mainstream laptop GPUs for a long time now. The only problem is finding an 8600m GT. However, if you can find one, from Dell or eBay (and it must be a Dell 8600m GT, not an MXM one), then you can swap them.
So again, please check your facts. -
heres the link, there are few pics do you guys thinks this is right for my laptop? It says 256mb and its for the inspiron but im not fully sure.

If anyone know how the dell 8600m gt looks like pls help -
My question is...
Can you put a DDR3 8600M GT into a Vostro? I have a feeling the Vostro's have better cooling than the 1530's. -

Would these help? I took them way back last year just to prove the whole DDR2 thing, but I guess it gives you a good idea on the size of the card + heatsink. Edit: BTW, the machine pictured is a Vostro 1500.

Right - lets clarify.
Vostro 1400 and Inspiron 1420 have intergrated Intel GPU or Discrete 8400GS on the motherboard.
Vostro 1500 and Inspiron 1520 have a seperate, discrete GPU card - 8400GS or 8600GT - or Intergrated Intel GPU.
Vostro 1700 and Inspiron 1720 have a seperate, discrete GPU card - 8400GS or 8600GT - or intergrated Intel GPU.
Both come with DDR2 and differ in the fact that they have a slightly different heatpipe to fit the two form factors. The Intel GPU version of both have the GPU and LCD output port on the motherboard and need a motherboard swop to run a discrete card.
The newer Vostro 1510 and Inspiron 1525 have intergrated Intel GPU.
XPS 1330 and 1530 have discrete GPU soldered to the motherboard.
XPS 1730 has sperate, discrete graphics card. -
I actually upgraded 8400M-GS to 8600M-GT (with a twist)in my Vostro 1500. You can find the details here
