I didn't want to cancel my current order. I was gonna order an Alpine White one with the same specs as my Flamingo Pink laptop (which is STILL in the build stage). I figured I'd just accept whichever one got here first, and cancel teh other order. Well after configuring a white one, it turns out that the price is over $200 more than I am paying for my pink one. I guess I'm stuck waiting for the pink one. I feel like I cannot win with this company!!!!

If I do a cancel/reorder, I may get the same price, but I also might be waiting til October to get it. I'm in Dell hell!!!!

Lol! Dell raised it's damn prices again!

My config now costs more than $1,700.

I got it for less than $1,400 including everything, shipping, taxes, everything.

Yeah, it's a total crock of sh!t. I'm really getting ticked. I can only imagine how the people that ordered at the end of June / beginning of July feel. I've tried to be patient, but this is just ridamndiculous.

It looks like we have pretty much the same computer except that I ordered the Alpine White to begin with. We placed our orders on the same day. My original ESD was 8/3, I now have an ESD of 8/17. I'm not really holding out hope for that, given the last backorder, I had the option of simply accepting that backorder, or accepting all future backorders pertaining to this purchase. That didn't really inspire much confidence in the 8/17 shipping date.

At this point, I think I would caution people in terms of what to believe in terms of parts, colors or configurations being available. From what I see, the only thing consistant coming from customer service is inconsistancy. I think in an effort to try and pacify us while in chat or on the phone. They will pick a random part and just say... that's what we're waiting for.

I placed my original order for a 1705 on 6/25, I cancelled that once it was backordered 3 times. To be fair, I would rather have the 1720, but if I would have just waited for the 1705, perhaps I would have my new computer by now. :(

I was going to order another inspiron for my dad originally. Thankfully, this ordeal has made me determined to get an HP for him instead which works out well since he wants a fingerprint reader, too. At least that's a grand of my money that Dell won't get.

Yeah, the only thing I believe about the CSR is that they don't know much. Anyhow, I completely look forward to having the month anniversary of my first order, 8/16, pass without my new laptop.

Please post updates about your order (delays, order status, etc.). There doesn't seem to be many 1720 people on here, and the ones that are on here are still waiting waiting waiting.

I know what you mean. My 1 month anniversary is this saturday. I am praying that I won't still be in build stage. My current laptop (Inspiron 9300) has a bad ac adapter connection (prolly the motherboard needs replacing). I'm afraid to send it out to get fixed b/c for all I know, it'll take forever and a day to do THAT! And I need this laptop for work! So I've got the thing jerry-rigged (taped the cord to my laptop desk). It's holding up, barely.

yeah, my current desktop, a Shuttle, is on it's last legs and pretty much restarts every time it does a minimally taxing exercise like opening two browsing windows or playing media. I need the laptop so I can say goodbye to it since the surge in its sudden restarts is putting my external hdds at risk. What to do, what to do...

I feel your pain. Ya got 2 choices. Wait or get a different machine. I've been a loyal Dell customer for many years. Their computers are great, which is the ONLY reason I'm waiting around for my 1720. If things get really bad, I do have a Dell desktop that I can transfer my files to. But that's really not practical for me, but it's better than not having any access to my files at all.
