Heres the deal... I want the E1705 for the GPU
But I want the E1505 for bettery battery life + better screen (from what ive read here)
is there any way I can compromise? The x1400 probobly wont meet my needs.

will the E1705 be too big for you?
Otherwise, i would look at that for the better GPU and identical price (not to mention better screen) -
Well I haven't actually seen a 17" in person. I would prefer the bigger screen , as long as it isnt grossly large. It's 15.5" wide, which does seem big... does anyone have problems taking it to class?

INTEl CORE2 Duo ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!
-
ummm deedeeman..what?
-
Yes, current Core Duo users can have Core Duo 2 possibly.
A 17 inch would be hard to take around.
How long are you going to carry it around? And what are you going to use it for? -
I'm going to college next year. I'll be taking it to classes, to the library (if i actually study! =P ), etc. I'm going to use it for gaming, movies, photoshop, etc. So I need a good graphics card. I may even teach myself to program, so gaming will be very important.
A 2nd option would to be buy the cheaper laptop, and upgrade my desktop. This is my last resort option though.. I'd like to consolidate -
If you're looking at a 15.4' laptop with a good vid card, go for the S96J or Z96J. The have the x1600 which is about half the power of the 7900 gs, and a little more than twice the power of the x1400.
-
so you want a card better than the x1400.
a E1505 would probably cost 1200 bucks, As would a low end laptop.
Upgrading a Desktop would take about 200 bucks or more.
Now, if you sell your existing desktop for a sum of money, and use the existing "laptop money" you can easily get a 15.4 inch laptop (or even smaller!) with a x1600 card. -
The only reason e1505 has the better battery life because of the worse GPU...
-
i'd say stick to gaming on the desktop. you won't want to be gaming on a 15" screen anyways, and you cant really game when your laptop is on battery power because it underclocks itself... -
I'd also suggest get a gaming desktop and go for a budget laptop. 17" is a little too big especially if you are going to carry it with you a lot, 14-15" is the perfect size, not to mention it's very hard to find a notebook case that will can fit a 17" laptop.

What games exactly do you have in mind?
I wish there was a better GPU for E1505
