I recently purchased a Dell E1505. This is my first laptop. I also have a Dell Dimension 8200 desktop which I have had for about 4 years that has served me well. I plan on playing some games with this laptop.. but not too heavily. I mainly just wanted a system that is going to last me until the end of college. My E1505 includes:

-Intel Core duo processor T2500 (2MB Cache/2Ghz/667 MHz FSB)
-Genuine Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
-15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA display with TrueLife
-2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHZ, 2 DIMM
-256MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 HyperMemory
    -100GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
    -24x CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive
    -Integrated Audio
-Intel PRO 3945 and Dell 350 Bluetooth Internal Wireless Cards
    -Microsoft Office Small Business Ed.
-McAfee Security Center- 15 months (I have heard that McAfee does a decent job so I thought I'd give it a shot. I have had Norton in the past, which I am not a big fan of.)
-85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
-4yr Premium Solution Package (I will be using this laptop in college so I needed to make sure I was covered in case of any accidents.)
-85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Additional Battery

After tax and shipping, my total was around $1,800... which I feel is a good price after using a 35% off coupon. I ordered it online a week ago and it is scheduled to arrive on Monday. I can't wait :D. What do you think of this system for the price? The only other thing I'm trying to decide is whether or not to purchase a Dell carrying case or look around to see what the computer stores near me offer.

Looks like a decked out e1505, it seems really good and since you got the 4yr premium solution package it should last you a while. You can get good cases at a lot of websites, there are threads about them just search on the forums and you can find em ^^. Good luck with your system m8 :D

    wow, good buy

i have Mcfee on my computer and i have been virus free for the whole time i have had my computer (year) and on our desktop has never had a virus and it is 3 years old, so yah Mcfee is good.

my friend has norten and he has gone threw 4 computers in the last year.

it's possible to get a virus with Mcfee, but you have invite it yourself to get one

Great deal! I think that the E1505 is Dells sweet spot, good portability/performance and a great price! I wish they had a bit better graphics card though (maybe an X1600 or 6800go) but that sould be a great system! Espically with the dual core+2GB of RAM!

Your friend sounds like he knows nothing about computers, theres no reason he would need to go through 4 computers when he could just get a xp disk and reformat his pc back to new. Plus I haven't had any sort of antivirus for the past two years and I haven't had a virus/spyware issue.

Well, I wouldn't call him an idiot, but I would certainly agree with that assessment.

Before getting the 3year subscription of McAfee with my new laptop, I've always run Norton and never had an issue on any of the 6 computers I currently have running, or any I've "retired" in the last few years.

In fact, the Norton Spam plug-in is far superior to Mcafee (which is slow).

But, McAfee still seems to do the job pretty well over all, and you'd be fine with either. (In other words, I'm not uninstalling McAfee since I got the 3 year subscription free).

You usually wont get those types of things if you use firefox and avoid things such as pr0n(aka porn) and hacker warez. I personally use AVG antivirus but I haven't had a virus in... years.

Oh, and good buy with the E1505.. I wish mine was that pimP
