I place an order for a XPS M1530, and instead of shipping it to the address in my DPA, they ship it to the COLLEGE that is eligible for the discount.

Has anything this utterly ASININE happened to ANYONE? EVER?! :realmad:

This is so ridiculous. Someone at Villa Julie already signed for it, and I'm in the process of trying to find this person. What I can't get is why dell shipped the package to Villa Julie and not my home residence.

I know Dell has deals with many many schools. Sometimes the schools have an arrangement where Dell packages several other 3rd party items into the box for the school and then ships it off to the school to deliver. Maybe thats what happened? Dells system shouldnt automatically route to the school versus your ship to unless that is the agreement with the school. Then againh, it could also be a mistake. They make those too :)

You must have just made a mistake and entered the wrong address at checkout. All that stuff is handled by a computer (it'd be stupid to think a person reviews every single order and shipping location) so all I can say is PEBKAC.

Okay, first off, I did some researching, and apparently it was sent to a residence 6 houses down from me. For whatever reason, DHL let someone else sign for it.

Secondly, an email was sent showing where this thing was supposed to be sent to, and it shows the correct address.

Tomorrow, I'll go down there and see if I can't get my laptop back.

There you go, a DHL problem, much more believable than Dell randomly shipping laptops.

Too bad no researching was done before putting a title on your thread and posting all the flames about idiots.

Its actually been brought up before. If you checked your shipping address after you placed the order, you would have noticed your school address instead of your home address. Most people that ordered with the special education discount have to call in after placing an order just to make sure it gets shipped to their address and not their dorm address.

It is pretty silly, they should definitely do something about it.

I had no problems until i got my 1420. Then DHL was really jerking me around. Looks like FedEx is the only carrier I will use now.

Wished you followed up with DHL before posting like others mentioned. It's all in the tracking number. Assuming it went to the school was rather than somewhere else is an honest mistake. Hope you get your laptop otherwise you have to file a claim.

Wait, is it a school address or an address 6 houses down?

I would highly suggest you let DHL handle the package, rather than try to get it yourself...unless you know that person, of course.

I wish Dell would stop using DHL. Horror story after horror story.

So it sounds like this ISN'T Dell randomly shipping it somewhere wrong? Just DHL randomly giving it to someone? I'll be using my educational discount if I order a Dell, and it's a bit scary if they're just going to ignore the address I enter and send it somewhere else.

Last time I tried placing an order it was awful trying to figure out how to get it to come to me, and not list my school or anything on it.

The key when using an educational discount is follow up, follow up, and follow up.
