I have never ordered an electronic device off the internet before so I am kind of paranoid about something. When the actual laptop is delivered to my house, what if no one is home? Does the delivery man just leave it out on the front stoop or what? I'm kind of confused about this because I go to school early in the morning and don't get back until the evening. Can anyone explain to me what happens exactly? Thanks.

You have to sign that you received the item; if you're not there they'll come back the next day. Usually if you aren't there three days in a row (weekdays only) you have to pick it up from the shipping company's distribution center.

I think it varies by delivery company, but they won't just leave it there. If you're not home, they will either leave a note saying when they are going to come back, or for you to phone and pick a time, or tell you where you can go to pick it up.

That does happen to some folks, but I don't think Fedex, UPS and the like are actually supposed to deliver items for which people haven't signed. I think they're supposed to take the machine back to the warehouse and call to reschedule a delivery - which did happen when I wasn't at home for delivery of a camera I bought online (family emergency). The camera arrived in perfect condition, btw, as has nearly everything else I've bought online over the years. One issue, one time with a computer, but it was fixed 3.5 years ago and still runs fine today - I'm using it now to post this response.

I buy about 95% of all my stuff online, and apart from Royal Mail (here in the UK) I've never had a single problem!

And the only time I've had a problem with Royal Mail is when the daft sender doesn't send it by and form of recorded delivery (one that requires a signature)!

for larger purchases such as laptops, i have it shipped to work. that way i KNOW someone will sign for it and there's no chance of it being left on my front porch. i'm not really worried about it being stolen, but often, they want a signature and they always deliver when i'm working, so there's a delay in me being able to get it on time.

In Canada they use Puraltor( for me anyway ), they call and or leave a tag on the door, I then just go pick it up.
