I know people have waited so long for their laptops to ship. I have waited one day and it seems like an eternity. Newegg already has the ram on the way to my house and I ordered it a little over 24 hours ago. I know that it's different but once I get the ram I'm going to feel as though I have to use it. I'll plug it in my head so I run faster or something. Seriously though, I can't wait for the laptop. It went through production then stopped on boxing for the day. I have heard the boxing horror stories so I'll probably end up wait a long time for the Dell to be shipped (knowing my luck). Anyway, I had to type this somewhere because I can't sleep. Who else can't wait? BTW does anyone know where Dell ships from in California?

    well... i'm waiting too...
I placed my order on may 15th, estimated ship date june 1st. My order is in production since the day i ordered. I haved called customer service twice a day since june 1st, they don't know what is my status, they don't know why my laptop hasn't been already shipped, only they know that it is in production (I think they see the web page, the same information that i see) So, we are here, june 6th... my estimated ship date is already june 1st and the laptop is in production... and nobody can give an answer... I'm getting really sick of it.

The sad part of the history... I'm like you.. Since day 1st (may 15th), I checked the status in the page every hour... I really don't know what to do...

It shouldn't take them that long to ship it. Ask for a free upgrade, plus 1 day shipping because you are pissed. That is seriously not cool. You waited how many days for a computer to be built and shipped? 22? It shouldnt take close to a month to get what you just bought. Tell them that it will be out of date by the time it gets to your door lol.

You should get it in within a week of ordering.

But this can change depending whrre you live (and how quick UPS is) and part supply. Production took quite a bit, but now all these systems going so quickly, and idle in boxing.

    What i think:
Its nothing more than a script so people can supposably track their orders.
    Right

The worst part is the wait. Should take about 10-12 days to reach you

I've had three notebooks come in 7. So there's a chance that you'll get it sometime next week.

EDIT: I'm in SoCal. I believe Dell ships from TN.

AH, i remember back in those days (about a month ago). Yea, boxing stage is when the factory workers in malayasia have finished it, and it's being shipped to Dell here in the good ol US of A. That takes about 2-3 days, then it'll go to shipping like 1-2 days after it gets here and you should have it pretty soon after that.

I might have to go thru laptop withdrawal if things work out. I ordered mine e1705 3 days before they introduced the 7900 GS, so im tryin to get that changed out. I dont want it to be gone for too long.

Yes Dell does ship from TN.

I dont man since the 15th seems pretty dam long. I ordered mine last tuesday and ups is send it today. If I were you I would cancel the order and order again. The prices of the processor have dropped so you can save you money. They may have made a mistake with your order. Just call them and tell them you want to cancel and reorder, you will not be charged a dime since, they only charge you once they have shipped it. Goodluck, I'll tell you if ups comes with my notebook today...

    It will take 7-10days.
Then ups will ship it to the wrong person and you will have to wait another 2-3weeks.

I don't want to sound like I'm bragging, but I ordered my e1705 on June 2nd (Friday) and recieved it today (Tuesday Jue 6th). I suppose that it helped I live in St. Louis, MO, only a few hours from TN.

I also wanted to take this time to thank everyone on this site for all the information. I have been visiting here for about 4 weeks after I stumbled across this diamond in the rough looking for coupons/deals. I know I have not posted alot, and I apologize, but I just didn't have alot to say. The e1705 is my first notebook I have ever bought. I appreciate all the info and look forward to coming back here for more and maybe one day actualy having something useful to contribute.

=( newegg didn't get my ram to me today. What time does ups stop driving those big trucks and delievering? Alright, my Dell is still in boxing 2 days and counting. The guy said 2-5 days, it better be 2-3. If it goes past 5 I'll be pissed.

Why does some people's laptops get out of the boxing phase faster then others? I'm on my 3rd day of boxing, while some other people like stlsportspro got his in four days total. This means that my laptop will be in boxing as long as it took him to get his laptop built, "boxed", and shiped.

Don't feel so bad. My laptop's been delivered and sitting in my sister's apartment in Florida since the 3rd of May. I don't get it for almost another 2 weeks because I'm not in the US at the moment and I'm too cheap to have her FedEx it down to me so waiting until I go visit her.

Only reason I bought it at the time was I didn't forsee any good deals coming around and didn't want to miss out by waiting too long.

Whatever, I need to pass my exams and all I'd do is play with my new toy in any case. What's self control?? *grin*

8:13:16 PM Vinay S Sure, I will be happy to assist you with that.
8:14:08 PM You Why is it taking 10 days to leave Dell? It has already been built. I dont want it to remain in boxing for 9 days, that is unacceptable. Any larger distributor reguardless of backups should not take that long to ship. What is boxing anyway and why has it been in boxing for 3 days? Also where does it ship from, where does dell ship from in california?
8:16:20 PM Vinay S Elya, order are shipped for different parts of US and till the order is shipped out we cannot say from where its getting shipped out.
8:18:57 PM Vinay S As there is no response within the last two minutes. I will be ending this chat session. If you need additional support, please contact us at www.dellcustomercare.com. Have a Wonderful Day!!!
8:19:00 PM System Vinay S has left this session!
8:19:00 PM System The session has ended!
8:19:04 PM You Is there anyway to get this thing faster without spending any extra money? I have spent all the money I could. I planned on leaving next week, so there is absolutely no possibility to get this before the 14th? Also, I have read boxing takes 1-4 days, why exactly does it take so much longer? It is putting information together and the parts that are already built.

Don't let it scare you, I'm doing this so Dell knows that I won't like it if they delay my order forever. Most get their Dell's in decent time. I want to try to do this or better (hopefully). Turak, how do we have an opposite problem, I think it's the same. We ordered, and it has stayed in boxing. I need it before I go to L.A as well =) (Not 100% sure if i am going yet though)

Okay, then it isn't what I thought. For anyone else reading this that might have accessories, Dell does not ship your laptop out until your accessories are ready to go. Normally your accessories are ready to go before your laptop, but as in the case of shortages or just dell being normal (sorry I'm in sarcastic mood tonight), your laptop will have to wait.

When did you order your laptop deadbolt? If it is already in boxing, I would imagine that it will be on the carrier truck on Friday/Saturday.

Ordered it around 2 pm on Sunday. Everything was done when I checked in at about 5 am on monday morning. Then I see boxing and am like haha it must take like 10 seconds to box this thing. Then I check back like a maniac and just get frustrated that it is still in boxing. I was hoping to get it by this friday lol, yeah right!

well if dell does their usual, it should be in the US pretty soon. Once it is in Tennesse, it will change to shipped. Then you'll get your tracking number, and it takes about 24 hours to show up in your shipper's tracking system. Dell sends the laptops via a 3rd party to your regional center. My regional center was Kansas, but yours will probably be Salt Lake City or somewhere near there.

If they didn't tell you before, Dell usually overstates on their shipment dates. Since yours is already in boxing, you should receive it before the 14th or whenever it was.

Update: I got them to upgrade for overnight shipping for free! The rep also told me I was switched to high priority? I'm guessing that means shipping but maybe less "boxing" time? Sweet! hopefully this rep is telling the truth!

Actually, dell is pretty giving on the shipping. If you call them and tell them how dissatisfied you are with the shipping, they'll usually upgrade your shipping.

I think everyone gets free overnight shipping without any mention.
Everyone around me recieves/recieved their dell within 24 hours once the status
changes to shipped(no one pays for extra shipping).

I ordered a E1705 this Monday and it has been sitting in Production ever since. Others have mentioned here about the different stages like staging, kitting and so on, but all those are disabled on my Dell status page. What does this mean? I thought if parts are on backorder, then it should be stuck in pre-production. This whole thing is driving me nuts.

BTW, a big thanks to everyone on this board for sharing their valuable insights. It made my laptop buying experience a lot more informed and pleasant. I have taken printouts of a lot of the good stuff (especially SoutherGirl 's guide on reformat) and can't wait to start tinkering with my box when it gets here.

Let me give you the timeline of my most recent E1405 order.

    06/01/06 - Order Placed (10PM Pacific)
06/02/06 - Received an e-mail, regarding a problem w/ my CreditCard. Called them later that morning resolve the issue, so my order didn't actually go into production until after that.
06/03/06 - First full day in boxing stage
    06/06/06 - Order shipped.
06/07/06 - According to UPS.com: Scheduled delivery date. It was then rescheduled to 06/08/06 for no apparent reason. I checked again this morning & it's out for delivery.

So on this particular order, it took 5 days (from the time the order began production) for me to receive my notebook. This is w/o any upgraded shipping. Dell usually takes 2 days longer. Also, I hadn't noticed this before, but the Origin Scan for all of my notebooks were in Patrick, Nevada.

J4y_7, when in the day did your laptop get out of boxing? Are there normal times, or just random times throughout the day.

If they other stages are greyed out, then that means you haven't completed them. If a stage has checkmark by it, it has been completed. It has been awhile since I ordered a laptop, but some users don't realize that you can click on production, and it will show the individual stages (i think). I'm sure one of our new users can confirm that for you.

I'm not sure what stage it would be a backorder part. If it hasn't changed stages by Monday, I would call them and see what is going on. It is still early (IMO) for it to have moved to another stage.

Thank you for the comments on the guide. It will be updated tonight, but just a small change. I'm going to have exact directions on how to repair Media Direct with every step layed out.

When I checked in the morning yesterday, it was still in boxing. I have school from 8AM-3PM (Pacific). By the time I got home it was already out of boxing. So I wouldn't be able to give you the exact time.

Well, I just hope I get it soon before I go and before I go insane(Although my girlfriend will say I already have, lol) And when I try to get into dell chat support, it says i'm not a home customer, although I know I am. Oh, well, I guess I have to call then...

Turak - that is a common problem with the home customer. The easiest way I have figured out to get around that is to log in to your account, and I think if you scroll all the way down, you'll see "Chat with us".

I just chatted online with an online customer service rep. I was kind of irritated but I was very polite and mean? I don't know how? lol. He told me the same thing everyone else told me about boxing, that it could remain in boxing for a few days so (2-5). I told him 5 was unacceptable as it already had been 3 (well 2 1/2) and he said it should be out of there at any time. He also said that he would give me free overnight shipping so it arrives the day after it starts shipping. I think that when people order the notebooks and they have parts that aren't backordered as well as a less common notebook, then they will get it faster.

Wow, I'm stunned to see some of these delays on Dell's part for seemingly no great reason. I put in my order for an WSXGA+ E1505 (which was supposed to delay processing at one time) on Thursday, May 24 and it shipped out on the 27th. If not for the Memorial Day holiday, I'd have had it in my hands before the 31st. If parts are on backorder, I can easily see that causing a reasonable delay, but not something like boxing. That's just idiotic. It's a same the reps don't give more than the prepared standard response for such cases.

I ordered an I1505 as well and it's still in order processing. Can anyone who used a Dell Pref. account tell me if they explicitly state that you are approved anywhere? On my order confirmation it says 0.00 credit line so maybe I was denied but they put the order in anyway.

boxing is the trip over from malaysia; that's why it takes as long as it does.

they really need to change the name to TRIP OVER FROM MALAYSIA stage as everybody posts the same complaints with "how long can it take to box a computer?"

in all honesty, i don't know why everybody has such a hissy fit checking the stages over and over again and then complaining even though they haven't passed the estimated delivery date. the vast majority of customers get their notebook on or before it anyway.

I suppose one reason we are upset is because we want our laptops NOW! It also dosn't help when we hear stories of people getting there laptop four days after ordering and the we spend longer then that just in boxing.

Edit: I called Dell to see about getting my order sped up to one day shiping, and asked about why it has been on boxing for so long, and the person I talked to said that they don't know why it is taking so long. As if they don't know it is being shiped from Malaysia. But I got free one day shipping!
