I'm gonna freak out...

Ok, SO...my ship date has been 9/3/07 for so long and I was getting right excited as the countdown came closer until...BAM! * Order Delay Notice* So I called customer service and I asked the lady what exactly was causing the delay so perhaps I could change it and it would come on time? If it were the color I guess I could change that and sadly, she said it was the color so I said..."Okay, well how about we change it to black?"... "Uhh no miss we can't do that either."..."White?"... "Actually, all the colors are on back order." First of all black and white are SHADES people, get it straight, damn, and second of all why didn't you just come clean with me from the start woman, honesty is the best policy god! Anywho, I just checked my order status page and they haven't given me a new ESD, it's still the 9/3/07 yet the status is still 'in production' so I'm wondering if there's any hope at all that I'll be greeted with my lovely laptop monday morning? Anyone had a good experience with this or no? And as far as I know the lady said they were expecting the next order of colors next friday and she would have it shipped out next friday, unlikely but okay, and then she took my number about something...err...someone calling me to tell me about the progress but I'm not holding my breath on that one. What's your input?

 

It all comes down to luck really, a mate of mine ordered her laptop, got told it was going to be delayed, but then a day before the original delivery date she got a phone call telling her it was going to be delivered the next day. She was really lucky though... (hers was a Vostro 1500 though)

If Dell starts to take you for a ride, you nag the hell out of them until they role over and give you free stuff (And make sure you get it!). The other option of course is to go else where.

 

Haha yes, free stuff is always good. I should start calling them everyday starting the 3rd if I don't get it, and piss them off like they're doing to all of us who put our faith in them.

...and obviously there is a reason for asking about my avatar haha, is it not allowed or something? Some forums are weird like that and dont allow personal pictures sometimes so if that's the issue just let me know!

 

I doubt anyone will have a problem with the avatar, this is a pretty testosterone loaded place after all.

Just be mature when you complain to them, otherwise they pretty much annoy you. Plus, when you ordered the laptop did it mention anywhere about possible delays cause that can affect your chances of getting freebies, cause then they just claim you knew all about it.

 

It baffles me that there could be an entire section on this site dedicated to dells mess ups and they have no response per say.

It's not like this is a tiny niche site. This isn't the notebook pcmcia adapter cleaning forum.... its a forum dedicated to the entire notebook/laptop/portable computing segment and on top of that it's about the largest.

So surely someone at Dell is aware of this, and if not this forum and sub forum-- the larger issue itself. Yet they have yet to say anything, or offer the end consumer any more recourse than an apology and maybe a discount.

It's hard to believe that a company that has consistently been ranked as one of the top two consumer PC manufacturers in the world (by volume and sales atleast) is having this much of a problem with a high margin segment. It's not like there isn't plenty of incentive to get these things flying out the door.

 

Haha nice...yeah I didn't join to talk about all the specs. and that kind of mumbo jumbo that all you guys talk about, but everyone seems to be raging about the same thing so it's good to know you're not the only one that Dell is mistreating

I will definately keep your tactics in mind and try to tick them off to the extreme until they're throwing freebies at me left and right haha, you seem to know what you're talking about anyways. As for mentioning about delays I think they actually might have warned me so that's a set back...but I'm a pretty good sweet talker so it's worth a shot!

 

I would also like to mention that i am 5 foot three, weigh 300 lbs, have minor acne and enjoy long walks on the beach and expressing my emotions.

Yeah, that came to my mind too, if Dell isn't aware of all the controversy caused though...perhaps someone should inform them? Haha

 

This is the very reason why i joined the forum so early (i say early because i'm not planning on picking up another laptop for a couple months). To hear other peoples horror story's so i could avoid that drama and possibly enjoy their plight.

 

I have been sending Michael Dell texts for months and he wont even respond to me. Uppidy prick.

Who says the Chinese who are likely to have been your case maker haven't used lead paint like they have used in toys lately. (Just reassure you most major laptop manufacturers use cases made in China).

Sorry but I prefer field hockey, Ice Hockey sucks when the only skill you have mastered is landing on your face, which sucks for the fights cause they won't last very long.

 

Considering he brought the company from its roots and discovered the bread and butter consumer PC market and how to get orders out quickly (you'd never notice it if you're an xps owner), maintain a quick turnover rate, not get saturated with an inventory of older components that kill the margins (if you buy x amount of processors at one price, and the prices keep falling you have to sell them at market value; eventually you start losing money. that has been one of gateways big problems), etc. etc. They did most of that while Michael Dell was in charge. Were those all his great ideas? I dont know. But the CEO/President is responsible for the failures as well as the accomplishments. And when he left Dell started to sink even more than they had been. So i'm inclined to say that Dell was good at the helm, whether its true or not.. i really dont know... or care.

Don't do that, i did... it was a mistake. I'd gladly pay a hundred or two extra not to have to deal with the hassle, and keep the warranty.

 

I guess ill have to live with that for the rest of my life. Boxing is still the sport for me.

I'm not sure what that has to do with lead paint. But i think the term nut case is very relative. I dont think talking about computers and other inaine things this early in the morning makes any of us ideal humans as far as the majority is concerned.

Dell's delays is part of why I cancelled my $2500 purchase with them and went with someone else.

It's gonna kill em for sales, well that and their terrible customer service.

Ahh that explains it, yep Narnia is definately around there, I had no idea Dell had headquarters in Edmonton though, I'm starting a riot lol. I think I'll give it a while before I make any rash decisions though because I still have my hopes in them...definately will look into the money back thing if they let me down.

I sent customer service a couple questions and concerns via their email links on the website and got a reply back like 3 weeks later.. "sorry for the delay but sales will be better able to answer this".

This isn't the reason I cancelled my order but this is one more example of my issue with them.
