I just purchased a Dell I6000 and boy the CD/DVD drive is loud when reading a disc. Has anyone else experienced this with their I6000? I wonder if I have a bad drive.

Besides that, the notebook is pretty sweet. Screen is great, wi-fi card works well and I like the feel of the keyboard/touchpad. One drawback is the bloatware pre-installed. Uh, I have a wi-fi card....what's the deal with the AOL, Netzero and Earthlink junk???

DVD is quiet but yes the CD ROM is loud due to the speed of the drive whirring when the PC is accessing it. I believe there is some software to adjust Cd ROM spin speed but I haven't personally tried it.

Your best bet is to use something like Virtual Drive to use CD ROMs but this will be at the expense of using up hard drive space.

Dell will probably send you a new one if you ask. A lot of optical drives are noisy.
