Recently this becomes quite often, it will just shut off very suddenly. And when I tried to power it on right away, it usually won't start. After it gets cooled down after a while, it will then power on, then on the screen, it says something like "because of overheating, it shuts off".

I am just wondering if there is a way to fix this? What caused it? I have my I6000 over 1 year. Tried to clean the vent on the back once, it didnt help.

Thanks for any advice in advance!

You might want to look at the cooling guide...

If you still have any warranty remaining I'd call Dell direct and ask for a repair. You may have a broken fan/sensor or something of the sort which would throw the system into chaos.

If you want to learn how to take apart the computer and check for dust/broken parts, see www.support.dell.com

Do the fans go really fast before this happens? Sometimes pet hair gets caught up in the heat sink and it cannot cool.

I guess it's possible, but you should be very careful and pay attention to keep your fans free of debris.
