I installed TuneXP and did a tweak to make Windows boot up faster. It helped a lot, but recently it has been taken my computer over a minute to boot up which is a lot slower than it used to. Is there anything I can do about this?

well waht you can do is first get Microsoft BootVis. this will analyze and re arrange files in your boot layout to optimize the speed... Next make sure there aren't alot fo items booting up such as random programs you don't really use. For instance on my compute ronly virus scanners, firewall, and 2 other programs that control my fan speed and cpu clocking start up...

My boot time is usage on average around 20 seconds...

If you've installed any new programs lately, you might need to run Tune XP again. Also I would check your startup programs in msconfig and see if there are any unnecessary programs.

Thanks for the help guys but I just got home today and it booted up fast like it used too. It got slow after I installed Silent Hunter 3 and since then I've run TuneXP a few times.

How do you check to see what items are booting up?

I use MSCONFIG to check my start up programs. Start Menu-->run-->msconfig-->startup tab. The startup tab will list all programs that are starting up with your system, and you can select the programs that you want to start.

yah just go to run and then like type msconfig... Also if you want you can load what services load.. for this hover over my computer and right click to bring up the menu of options... Next click manage and go to the service tab...

Bewared some services are required to start up automatically for windows to work properly.. you can search for a page that helps you in this matter... I think I only turn off a few because I know I dont need them such as ms messegner and what not...

Also you can access your bios and disable your modem (56k/ethernet) if you are using wireless primarily. If you have a cd in the drive when you boot your time will be about 10 seconds longer then without the cd in just for a hint.

sometimes when you installed stuff windows prefetch folder fills up like no other... what you can do is delete all the items in the prefetch folder and after a few boots it will fill itself back up with the files it need that relate to your start up programs and leave out the bloatware stuff taht automatically startup by default like real one media player and what not.
