I decided to get I6000, thank you for everyone for helping me(esp. Southern Girl) [ :D]

Would 1gb RAM, 1.86M, 64mb mobile ATI(?) support pretty much any gaming? and DVDs? How about WSGXA+? I heard font size was small and stuff but I am currently on 1280*1024, so..would it be a radical change for me when I'm working on term papers?

    Your welcome.
The ram and processor should be good for gaming, but the 64 might give you some problems. Normal/regular games shouldn't have any problem, but things like Doom might be a little difficult. I do have to adjust my settings to play games though. My settings are at 1440 by 900,so I usually have to go down to 1280 to get my games to run properly, but I don't know any difference when I'm actually playing.

DVD's won't be any problem at all. You have a better system than I do, and I play DVDs all the time. [ :p]

My biggest adjustment was getting used to widescreen. It might take a few days to get adjusted to everything, but eventually you won't have a problem.

    Congrats on your new laptop,
    Amber

P.S. If you find that you are having problems with small text on your papers/websites, you can hold down ctrl and use the up/down scroll on the mousepad to adjust your settings without having to change your display settings in the control panel.

I've been reading a TON of posts about the I6000 (my baby should arrive on my doorstep tomorrow [ :D]) and from what I can tell, and from my research into the x300, it should be able to handle a lot of games fairly if not excellently. I wouldn't reccomend it for say, Doom 3 at hi-res unless you've got some serious hardware mods, but I think it can handle a lot of pretty serious stuff! I'm personally planning to use it for C & C : Generals Zero Hour, Starcraft: Brood War, and of course, my old-time favourite, Warcraft II Haha!!

Don't listen to those who say the x300 sucks. I've played plenty of games on my 6000d.

Ive got 1.86Ghz Pentium M, 1GB of RAM, and the x300 128MB, and it runs everything I want just fine. It even runs Far Cry fairly decently, so that says something!

Thats the display I have! 1680x1050 WSXGA+, the middle one.

You should be very happy with your comp, I know I am! Don't let the naysayers scare you, some people are just too picky. For me its pretty much a perfect laptop.

So is there much difference between the 64mb and the 128mb x300? I am also considering a inspiron 6000 and would like to be able to play games occaisionally (gta: vice city and ureal 2003 for example). Would the 64mb be able to handle that?

For such a small price difference go for the 128MB. You can't really change the graphics card later, at least not cheaply and easily, so might as well go for the better option.

Things that arent easily or cheaply changable you shouldn't go cheap on. Things like RAM or Hard Drive are easily changeable - even on a laptop - so if you need to cut your cost choose lower options for those, but on graphics and processor go for the most you can afford, and with graphics dont get anything but the best available.

well the performance gain from 64 to 128 is questionable, but yeah it is a really small price difference.

just remember to play your games at 1024 x 800 or lower! 6000 is great at that or lower resolutions.

have fun with your new laptops![8D][ :D]

I think that one is the regular display one, WGSA or somehting.

My question is would my 128mb ATI x300 perform higher than my desktop GeForce 4 64mb MX400?[8)] <-a funky face huh?
