Hi - I have a 2 month old Inspiron 6000D that works great except pretty frequently, when I close the screen when the computer is running off of a battery, freezes. Nothing I hit on the keyboard works, I have to turn off the PC and reboot it. Anyone have any suggestions? Its usually after its been sitting 5 minutes or so, so I'm guessing its in hibernate mode. Thanks.

I had that problem with my old i3500. I think it is a problem with hibernation. Try turning hibernation off and see if that solves it.
Control Panel> Power Options> Hibernate tab> uncheck enable hibernation -
I have the exact same problem, and I have Hibernate turned off. Could it be the Intel Pro 2200bg causing the problem? I've tried everything Dell Support told me to do! Can anyone help?

If you have hibernation off then try changing some of the other power management options. Also check the bios settings. I think there might be some power setting in there.

Dumb question, I just purchased a I6000D. However, my laptop says I6000 on the machine & when I boot up. Did Dell dupe me & give me the wrong laptop?
Anyone else have a I6000D that can answer this questions?
Also, what forum would I use for general questions about my configuration? For example, I'm trying to enable my Fn key on my laptop? It's disable for some reason. When I go to press Fn+F10 nothing happens, (This should open the optical drive) -
Oh, I see I confirmed it in the display. It says 64MB dedicated to Graphics & 1680*1050 for screen resolution.
Thanks.
The "BIOS" that's something I have to change when booting up. Maybe it's in my owner's manuel.
Thanks, I have another question. When I was reconfiguring my Laptop to make it run faster. I was changing the display back to classic look because it's easier on the processer (so I've been told) I think I deleted Musicmatch & Dell Media. How do I reinstall those to programs specifically? I couldn't find them when going to my Crive, under drivers.
Oh ya, is anyone real familiar with Nero? -
BIOS is the same as "Setup", hit f2 when you have the big blue dell logo on a black background when your maching is booting up. look around for some "Fn" key settings (again, i don't think this exists, but maybe you can look around)
musicmatch is not a driver, it's an app, i think it's actually available for free download, you just need to dl it again. if not, you can call/email dell for replacement cds (assuming your maching didn't come with any, mine didn't), then you can reinstall all you want. you can also restore your system to factory settings with the restore function on your laptop (see manual on how to do it, i have no idea)
i don't know what dell media is -
1. the 'd' simply means dedicated gfx card. check device manager to see what vid card you have
2. this is the place to look for answers
3. fn should work just fine; fn+f10 should pop the drive. maybe you can try the bios settings, but i don't think there's actually a way to 'turn off' the fn key -
THanks for the feedback. When you say it doesn't exist, does this mean I won't be able to enable the Fn key? I know when I first got my laptop it was enabled. Hopefully I'll find something.

Ya, I think so I do recall seeing that. I must of thought it was Quickbooks.
-
i'm saying that i am unaware of a feature that will render your Fn key inoperable... i don't think that something like that exists... are you sure it's not working? have you tried any of the other Fn functions like screen brightness, wifi on/off, mute, etc?
ooooooooo, i just figured it out...
you deleted Dell Quickset didn't you? or at least it's not enabled... you have reinstall it or enable it
is that what you meant by dell media? -
How do I do that
-
Oh,as far as my Fn key, I can still adjust the brightness using Fn+Up/Down arrows. But F1-F12 don't seemt to work with the Fn key. Could it be F1-F12 buttons?
-
reinstall quickset, its what enables the fn functions you're missing
