Dell is really annoying in that they offer only the X300 with the I6000, but offer the Geforce 6800 with the I9300 - with the only difference being the larger screen of the I9300 (as far as I can tell).

Is the X300 card upgradeable on the I6000 (either user-upgradeable, or by making a special request when ordering the laptop from Dell)?

    The short answer is no.

Laptops only work with specific video cards, only ones that are designed to fit and will be recognized by the computer. If dell decides to design a better card for the 6000 later, then you can upgrade.

You cannot upgrade the graphics card in the Inspiron 6000 unless Dell decides to come out with a graphics card designed for the i6000. The reason the Nvidia GoForce Go 6800 is included in the i9300, is that it is their flagship multimedia notebook and it has a larger power supply than the i6000. However, even the i9300 cannot be upgraded to the Nvidia GeForce Go 6800 Ultra (which is in the XPS Gen. 2) without buying a XPS Gen. 2 motherboard and larger battery. In other words, it simply isn't worth upgrading the i9300 to the 6800 Ultra graphics card.
