Well, I finally found out about this neat little program. Was starting to wonder if my 6400 even had temp sensors. Very nice to finally see some numbers. I checked off all the sensors readers, and they seem to be reading them all great. However, the area for "read hard drive temperatures" is grayed out. Can anyone tell me why, and if this can be worked around? Perhapse my perticular HDD simply doesn't have a sensor? Which would suck.

My HDD is reading as: Samsung HM160JI ATA Device...
Which is odd, cause I'd thought I had ordered a SATA Seagate.... I have to recheck my order statement on THAT... maybe I am just losing my mind. :)

You don't have the option to actually pick which hard drive you want. If they run out of one type of SATA hard drive, they substitute with whatever is on hand. You'll still get a 160GB drive, but it could be Seagate, Samsung, Fuji, etc.

Okay... That's fine, I suppose. But why is it saying ATA, and not SATA? >_>
    I ORDERED SATA...

Alright, I had the time to find the profile for the hard drive:

    http://www.samsung.com/Products/Har...es/HardDiskDrive_SpinpointMSeries_HM160JI.asp

Apparently it IS SATA. I don't know why windows device manager reads it as ATA, that kind of freaked me out. So far everything has been beautiful with my new laptop. Hate for something to suddenly go wrong. :D

I still can't find if this HDD has temp sensors or not, but it'd definitely suck if a brand new HDD didn't have them, hey? :(

Yeah, I'm having the same "problem" with the Samsung drive. Every diagnostic tool is reading it as ATA, even though the manufacturer's website says it's SATA. Do I have to change my settings somewhere or why is it showing like that?

I have the same hard drive and I was also facing the same problem like yours when I received my laptop. The simple solution of this problem is that since you are using vista you have to run I8Kfangui under administrator mode. right click on icon and there is an option of running under administrator mode, click on that. In fact every hard drive temp. monitoring software has to be run under administrator mode in vista.
And I am 100% sure this particular hard drive is sata and not ata.
