    I just left the settings on "normal" and did not change anything in it. Some people might want to customize it the way they want, like I put my cpu temperature on top and gpu temperature on the bottom. And I also set it to run on computer start up.

    It all depends on what temps you want them to run at....around 90 is very dangerous for sustained periods of time. I game and it hovers around 75 or 80. it would help to know the specs of your machine.

    well mine are at the default setting and the temps that I get are

    cpu 35
    gpu 47
    memory 48
    chipset 47
    hd 39

    Is there anyway that I can set the fan to go on once it hits a certain temp?

    If you want your laptop cool, then mess around with the CPU and GPU temperature ranges. Adjust the fan speeds always have this thing running in the background.

    Personally, I love this software. It keeps my CPU between 15-25 idle and 26-35 at full load and my graphics card never gets above 66 in gaming.

    I dont understand what the temperature control tab means. Why are there 4 temp level numbers and what does the range mean? Also what does it mean 1st fan and 2nd fan?

    Today the temperature of the T2500 in my E1705 hit 77C!

    What's up with that?? I8kfanGUI is set to observer mode.

    open the programs. Click options. Click temperature control. Select normal. Click the CPU tab. Click Enable CPU temperature control. There are 4 levels. The first fan is the fan on the left, closest to the CPU. click enable first fan and enable second fan. I have my boxes set at: 1. 43/40 slow/nochange 2. 45/43 slow/slow 3. 50/45 fast/slow 4. 60/50/fast/fast.

    Next, click GPU. Click enable GPU temp control. I have both fans enabled for GPU. mine is set at 1. 50/47/off/slow 2. 55/50 no change/fast 3. 65/55/slow/fast 4. 70/65/fast/fast

    I don't have temp control set for memory or chipset.

    Next. close the options window. Click on enable temperature control. Now the fans will adjust their speed according to the rules you created in the options window.

    observer mode means that i8kfanGUI won't do anything.
    I think the way Dell BIOS is set up (which is extremely dumb) is that it won't do anything until CPU or GPU temperature reaches 78 degrees (C) and then turn both fans on. You probably want to configure your i8kfanGUI and use it.

    Here are the settings that I use on my e1705/9400, but all of them are personal preference. I've selected these after doing some monitoring and figuring out commonly seen temperatures.

    CPU Enable CPU Fan (Fan 1)
    1. 53C -> 38C Slow
    2. 60C -> ..... Fast
    3. 70C -> ..... Fast
    4. 75C -> ..... Fast

    GPU (GPU Fan = Fan 2)
    1. 62C -> 55C Off
    2. 72C -> ..... Slow
    3. 75C -> ..... Fast
    4. 77C -> ..... Fast

    Memory and chipset are set to enable both fans on Fast if they get to 65 degrees even though this is not really necessary, because fans don't really affect the temperature of either one and also because if memory/chipset get to that temperature it means that something either CPU or GPU will be running pretty d@mn hot too.

    My fans seem to be running non-stop. The computer is mostly on idle. Not loudly though. Is there any way that I can keep it off? Also, since im not a gamer, what kind of setting should i put fo my temp control for cpu and gpu?

    try the ones I posted above and then make adjustments for your particular system.

    I would like to be able to make my own adjustments but I do not know what the specific configurations mean. I dont know what it means by "Turn on at" and "Tun off at" Im assuming that means the fan but if so why are there four levels? Do I need to set the temp lower or higher to make the fan turn off?

    those 4 levels are different policy levels, temperature ranges if you will. First you specify different temperature ranges in the ascending order and as temperatures increase you can also increase fan speed.

    Turn on at and Turn off at represent temperatures at which that specific policy level comes into effect and at what temperature fan operation is no longer governed by that policy level. See my settings in the previous post for an example.

    so simply set the fans to do what you want in the temperature range in which you want them to do it. (eg Turn on at 40 degrees, turn off at 20 degrees ---- Off) will cause fans to come into an Off state at 40 degrees and stay off until the the temperature is 20 degrees. Now you know that it won't happen because the fan is off, that's ok, just make sure that you configure upper policy levels to turn the fans back on as the temperatures get higher. Then as soon as the temperature hits 40 fans will turn off and stay off until the temperature hits that 'turn on at' temperature specified in the next policy level (eg 55 degrees).

    Awesome! Thank you for the descripion. What does the "peak" tempreture mean on the main window under the "Current System State"?

    EDIT: Also, accoring to RightMark, my core temp is at high 60s. Is that terriable? As well, my CPU load and speed are at its max according to I8k, but when I look a RightMark, the cpu load is 5 and the cloak speed is 800. Any ideas?

    The peak is the highest that the temperature of watever it is ur looking at has gone. Whether its the CPU, GPU, etc. Lets say u fire up a HL2 and ur CPU temp reaches 70C that would record as ur peak. I'm not too sure of what u mean in ur edit.
