Some folks may not know that the most recent version of the very useful fan control program is now compatable with the 1505 and 1705 dual core Dells.

I used the program on my 8100 and found it very good for keeping the computer cooler. I believe that is one reason it still works very well after 41/2 years. A link to the site is www.diefer.de/i8kfan

    Agreed, i8kfangui is great.

Bjorned, those temps sound right to me. Did you add in the 8 degree difference?

Wait, are you saying the sensors are 8 degrees off?

I dunno if it's a result of the sensors, but in order to get an accurate temp calculation, you have to adjust the difference in the options area by 8 degrees celsius.

To adjustthe temps, look under the options tab. Pretty much everyone has to offset by 8-10 degrees so they read correctly.

Subtract...the program does it automatically when you type in the number you want it to offset.

I have mine set to full manual control (hardware sensor reading off). I keep the CPU fan on low and the GPU fan on high. It runs much cooler than it did with the bios running the fans. I can comfortably keep it on my lap now, and the fans are quiet enough that I don't notice them running.

Why do i have to use an offset (8 degree) on an E1505/i6400?

Because the temperatures read by I8KfanGui (without the offset) are the same as the temperatures read by other programs like NHC.

What is with the GPU-temperature (X1400)? Is this value read correct by I8KfanGui?

over all I like this program, but how do I get it to keep the manual settings?, I'll set it and my cpu is chillin at 29c, when I boot up again, it's a sweaty 52 c, until I set it to manual again, thanks

On the first page under options, you want to check the box that says "enable automatic fan setting" and set the speeds that you want them at everytime you start the computer. Also make sure that on that same page the "enable autostart" option is checked. Make sure that the automatic options under the temperature control tab are not checked, as well as the "enable hardware sensor support" under the direct fan control tab.

Hi, I Have the fan2's speed locked to 922RPM.
    Why?
It's the fan of the graphic card (ati x1400)?

    Thanks

I9kfanGUI is not the same program. I think it is I8kfanGUI with some different settings. I8kfanGUI works with Core duos but I9k DOES NOT! :)

I think the 1505 only has one fan. When I pull up the Dell documentation and graphics I only find one fan. I think when you have the settings you are using it causes the fan to be on all the time at a low speed. At least this was my conclusion after trying to set the temp for a second fan. I am a novice at this so if I am wrong someone should set me and tia86 straight.

FYI I have the 1505 setting on a Targa coolpad and generally (with no gaming) the temp is between 100 and 107. I have it set to come on at 105 and off at 98. It does not come on very often. When it comes on it is mostly at the lower speed that is in the low 2000's.

Ok so would everyone recommend using this then? Also whats this about manual adjusting the temp offset or something?

Ok this is odd... at 0 offset the CPU temp was 35C, I hit offset to 8 and it jumps to 45C? Huh that isnt right or?

Also said it couldnt change 2nd fan on manual?

Grr... confusing.. not sure what I am supposed to setup.. and I read this thread.. maybe someone for 1505 could post all the things we should do? Like a guide to doing it correctly? =)

The E 1505 only has one fan. Do not try to enable the second fan it causes the first fan to be on low all the time. On the fangui web site down load the manual it has a step by step instruction that will help you. The temp adjust is a minus adjustment.

Thanks, so would you recommend using this over the bios for normal use on the e1505? I just set mine up, its idling around 25-27C Manually turned fan on to high and it went to 21C so thats nice.

Anyone know if we should only setup temp control on the CPU or should it also be done on the other items as well?

But thanks to this little tool.. maybe I wont need a Fan based cooling pad. ^^ Just a passive one so I can put it on my lap again vs my bed.

Think everyone is using a offset of -8.

Also what C would you say is good CPU range for a gamer? I mean like whats ideal to keep it at?

I finally installed this last night and despite reading this thread I'm wondering about a couple of things (just a couple for now :) ).

As the E1505 has only one fan, should I disable all references to the second fan?

What offsets should be used for the various temperature readings on the E1505, at the moment I've left them all as 0?

When I was just browsing the net with a 0 offset, it was reading the CPU at around 45degC. Is this accurate?

What temperature ranges are people using? At the moment I'm using the Normal policy set to something like:
    • 50 (off at 40)
    • 60 (50 slow)
    • 70 (60 fast)
    • 80 (70 fast)

I8kganGUI also registers the CPU speed at full when CPU-Z and System Properties show it under clocked at the same time (Intel SpeedStep). What's going on here?

I've recently used my 6400 without running I8kfanGUI at all or with it set to Observer Mode and it seems to run and feel cooler than when I8kfanGUI is in control and it's not obvious when the fan is on.
