    3dMark05 - 4455 marks...not bad for a 9300. Anyone else have results for I9300?

I'm sure its Stock, he just got the laptop. I mean Overclocking generally by all manufacturers void your warranty, not to mention it shortens the lifespan of your components.

I'm gonna throw out a random guess on this one...
Overclock... maybe open a few pipelines...?
Some good personal experience for that novel you've been trying to write, Brian...?

Anyways, do you have any light leakage on your screen?

    Ogando,

Run your card until it is warmed up...play a graphicly intense game...then OC it by detecting the optimal settings.

    Aindfan,

I have no noticable light leakage. I have the XVGA+ screen.

Leakage means that there are spots (usually bars) of excessive backlighting and some spots of inadequate backlighting. It looks my friend's i9300 look like **** (not that my geforce 2 MX can run HL2, but still...). It's most noticeable with the brightness turned all the way down.
Most people say it doesn't happen on the Samsung WUXGA screens. (I'm talking about the 9300)

Yes, I OC'ed it by using the new drivers. I ran my card until it is warm and then detected optimal settings.

Ahh...voided warranty yes....but I have many a people in the professional computer repair business that will repair the PC for just the cost of parts. By the way, if I install the original drivers the clock speed goes back to normal. I don't think dell support will notice...if they do, then I will take it to one of my friends to get it repaired.

Heck, you could probably repair it yourself. I don't know how computer literate you are on terms of repair/installation. I mean, I could fix the problems myself, however I figure since I got a warranty why waste money of my own fixing it, when my warranty could get it repaired for free.

Changing drivers do not void warranties, does it? Did you make the card run at clockspeeds higher than it claims to be able to handle?

    Ardor,

You can get the other drivers at even the Nvidia site...they are locked. If you want the good drivers go to www.omegadrivers.com and find the card. When you open the Nvidia control panel it will be under advanced settings and will say "no overclocking" "manual" or "auto."

After that you want to run your card for a little while to get the temp up. Once this is done change the overclocking to Manual and detect optimum settings.

By the way, I am not advocating that you should overclock. This is recommended for users who know how. TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! The tempatures could damage your computer and like I said this is at your own risk. I ran 3dMark05 and my card didn't go over 50C which isn't bad. I will let you know what settings my card is at, but detecting optimal settings is the safest way if you want to OC. Hope this helps.

    Yes, I agree with USAFdude.

Overclocking should also in no way be used as a permanent solution either. Overclocking generally increases heat output and it also decreases the lifespan of a component. Companies know that their products can go faster than what they make them, but the reason why they dont use that extra speed is because of those exact issues.

    1440X900 - 392/763 - 3754
    1024X768 - 392/763 - 4549

All of this down for 3 tests in a row and temp newer went above 53C. This is just above my optimum settings.

different chips have different specs for heat. in the 6800 case is was designed to create a lower market in the upper end. it is very similar to the ultra and can be clocked very high from stock speeds. this is especially true for desktp gpu such as the 6800 GT. it is the exact same harware with slighly slower latency memory than the ultra, but clocked much slower. most chips are designed off of one and then clocked differnetly to create different markets.

those are very good numbers USAFdude. my 6800 idles at 54 C and cant get above 360 mhz core. just wondering, what is your ambient room temperature?

Well he is living in Wisconsin like I am, ever been to wisconsin in the winter? Well its pretty much known as the coldest state in the country during the winter. Many people don't have heat on high around here especially with gas prices, so it's probably a bit cooler here than where you are.

I downloaded PCMARK and 3dMARK from futuremark.com (free versions).

I've tried running them both and during the first minute or 2 of each one, some error pops up saying that the benchmark program is trying to run at a resolution not supported or something like that.

Are you guys running a registered copy of these programs in order to get them to perform in widescreen resolutions?

I won't discuss what I mean by 'registered copy'.

I don't wanna have to buy the program to play with it for a few hours then never use it again.

whoever said that o/c'ing voided thew warranty, you are correct. however, if your laptop ****s up, just put it back to default clocks. and with dell, tell them your gpu is fried, send it back, get a new laptop. not hard at all.

Nice OC. Only 67C for the highest temp? What is the ambient temp of the room and do you use a cooling station? What program are you using for viewing temps?

Just curious, I would love to get my temps lower and OC a little more. :D
