I have seen a post in the software section of this forum about this game. I was wondering if anyone on this side of the forum has tried Fear on the I9300. Please post your specs and settings and FPS. I want to get this game, but I want to know how good the I9300 will run it.![]()

I have......i installed it tweaked a bit via a fear tweak guide and also optimized my settings. It plays like an ABSOLUTE dream on my 1.86ghz PM and overclocked 6800 GO (369/765) at 1440x900 with everything maxed and soft shadows, vol. lights, and shadows turned off with 4xAA and 4xAF I get like around 40 fps.

Jakroo99,
What are the specs of your machine? I find that it plays kinda slow on that setting, I am currently playing at 800X600 and getting 65FPS average all the way up to 120FPS with everything maxed AA 2x and AF 2x. -
Inspiron 9300
Pentium M 1.86Ghz
1GB Dual Channel Ram
GeForce 6800 Go OC'd (369/765)
60GB 7200 RPM HD
Intel 2200 B/G Internal WiFi
17" WXGA+ Matte Screen
Make sure to have Soft Shadows, Volumetric Lights, and Shadows all OFF. Plus I OC'd my card to the wall basically and I have a NV42 core. There is no reason why u shouldnt be able to run it with the same settings as me. Also, I installed the 1.02 patch if that makes any difference. -

Oh ok, that is why I had lights and stuff on full. I will try those settings when I get off work tonight. Thanks for the info, I was playing with everything on high last night 800X600 and it looked awesome.

jakroo99,
That works alot better. What do you have the world settings at? I am getting like average of 62FPS right now. Thanks for the info, really helped. -
Uhh can u clarify what u mean exactly by world settings im ont familiar with that...And you get 62fps HOLY ***** can u please post ur full specs?

What I meant was like do you have the bullets and world details all the way up? I am playing on 1024X768. I don't have the option to play on 1440X900, did you have to do something special?
-
I should try Fear on my B130!
Haha, just kidding. -
USAFDude yeah i have all those settings maxed out including physics, shells, etc. As far as playing at native res I would suggest playing at 1440x900 if u have a WXGA screen. How do you do so? Simple...go into C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\[Shared] Documents\Monolith Productions\FEAR directory. and find the settings.cfg file. Adjust the "ScreenWidth" and "Screen Height" accordingly and walla custom res! BTW, dont go back into the game settins into display because ur changed res will mess up. Enjoy Gaming FEAR at native res!

Thanks,
How big of a difference in the look of the game? Just wondering if it is worth it... -

Well, it is better to play in native resolution, because the image is sharper.
LCD's have a set "Pixel Grid". If you set a non-native resolution, then you effectively "stretch" the image over the grid, and the pixels won't line up where the grid is - that creates the bluriness and distortion.
That is why I say it is always better to get a lower resolution on a gaming laptop (rather than the WUXGA), because the video card will have a much easier time with it. -

So Chaz, you are saying that my video card will have an easier time running at 1440X900 than 1024X768?

Jakroo,
What is the temp of your GPU after playing for a while? -
In response to your previous question akin to what chazman said gaming at native res just looks better imo. GPU temp on my card after playing fear is somewhere around the 55 Celsius range last time I checked which i think is rather cooled considered I have OC'dit to the wall. AFter all this optimization have u started playing SP yet? :base:

Well, I said that it is a good idea to get a lower resolution screen if you plan on playing games, becuase that will be much easier on the video card (if you play at native resolution). Of course, this is my opinion, and not everyone will agree with me.
The reason it's better to play at native is because of what I said - the image is much sharper. -

Jakroo,
I have been only playing SP right now, I don't like to many 1st person shooters on the computer. I play Socom 3 for that kind of action. -
SP=single player
So has F.E.A.R. blown ur mind yet USAFdude or what??? I know the graphics are soooooooooooo friggin sweat and the gameplay with slo mo is simply breathtaking although i wish i had a nv42 core that could clock higher lol.

What are your OC settings? Mine are 380/763. So I am pretty high...I reach temps just about 70C when playing for a little over an hour. How about you?

Here is a thread that refers to overclocking - it's ATI cards, but a lot of the information (aside from the clocks, latencies, etc.) can help you out.

My idle is between 45C-48C when I am just using normal applications.

OK, then you should be alright. Your notebook has a very efficent GPU cooling solution, so I don't see any problems.
Nice overclocking. -

Thanks Chaz. I want to get the newer card, but I don't want to "void" my warrenty. I can always reinstall the old drivers on here if I need any work done, but I don't want to disassemble my comp

I've been reading alot of helpful stuff about my newly purchased 9300 on this site. I just got Fear and Far Cry for christmas and i've been playing them alot. I saw alot of people talking about how the 6800 go can handle alot but i've been a bit disappointed. I have the 1920 x 1200 screen and was wondering if that affected my low fps in the games i play. *i especially noticed it in fear, i have everything on medium or off and it still gets 40 max
-
Hey guys, forgot to add specs: 1.86 ghz, 1 gigram, the 'go', 80 gig @5400, and of course the wuzuwxga tru brite or w/e it is w/the 1920 x 2000 native.
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
1920x1200 is an extreme resolution. Turn it down.
-
i definately agree. the thing i'm concerned with is the fact that i can still trade my comp back in for a lesser native res. screen. does that seem to be the path i want to take if i want to game but only having a 6800go?
-
Try lowering the resolution, and if you are happy with the image quality then keep it. I own the lesser native screen and Far Cry looked and played great on almost all the highest settings.
Personally, I've enjoyed the lesser resolution screen. -
USAFdude02 NBR Reviewer & Deity NBR Reviewer
Hey Guys,
A good resolution is 1440x900...that is what I run at...I get great FPS with everything on high except shadows and the lighting thing. I get around 70 FPS average and low in the mid-40's. Try that. Let me know what happens. -
i talked to dell for about 30 mins, and after i finally got across that i wanted to downgrade to the 1440 x 900 screen (that seems to be the best choice, thx guys) i got transfered to the sales and returns where they then disconnected my call saying they were in a f***in meeting! i was really pissed so i guess i'm gonna try and see if i can do this switch a little later on tonight. thanks again for ur input fellas,
