For those of you out there who have a Studio 1555, 1557, 1558, or Studio XPS 1640, 1645, or 1647, there is a new audio driver available from Dell for the IDT High Definition Audio device that ships with our notebooks.
Dell's "Fixes and Enhancements" cite that it improves audio output stability, and in my personal testing I have found that it resolves issues related to jack switching with applications such as Skype and the well-known issue where plugging in or unplugging an external audio device to either of the output jacks could potentially cause any audio-related applications to crash.
This driver should also work with the Studio 1535 and 1537 models as well. If you are not using the SRS Premium software, I would recommend going into the properties for your output device (typically labelled as "Speakers / Headphones"), click on the Enhancements tab, and check "Disable all enhacements" which will disable the IDT Audio Effects (enabled, but not listed as part of the enhancements - seems to cause the audio to sound "muddy".)
The driver is compatible with Windows 7 in both 32-bit and 64-bit, and Windows Vista in both 32-bit and 64-bit. You can download it from http://support.dell.com/support/dow...dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=383724 or directly at http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R261324.exe.
Have a great day, folks!

Cheers for the heads up but this has been available since the beginning of April.
Good work tho. -
Well, since you brought this subject up, there's actually a newer version available - 6.10.0.6272.
It was posted for the M1530, I believe, but installs just fine in Studio 1555.
