Ok, in June 2006 IDT took over SigmaTel PC audio. Other manufactures like Gateway, ECS, Intel etc... started replacing Sigmatel drivers with better updated version of IDT driver.

For instance Gateway driver has correct hardware IDs in inf file, same hardware ID that is used on Dell Laptops with Sigmatel driver.

But the driver after install will not work, Some Dell specific changes probably have to be applied.

In the cases where Sigmatel drivers were replaced with IDT drivers, audio quality has been better.

If someone finds a proper method to mod the driver for it to work on Dell, please post it.

Other wise we have to wait for Dell to actually decide to do something and release proper driver update

I got nothing, but I don't like Dell's modded Sigmatel drivers, there too buggy for me, my friend got an Inspiron 1720 and played COD4 on it, and one day COD4 stopped starting up, and we found out days later that it was because of those drivers lol

Take a look over here. I am working on a set of Modded IDT drivers. Right now, all they support is Dell laptops, but they will support more in the future.

Man I would definitely try that out if it were made for Windows Vista.
