I've decided on getting xps 1530 and just trying to decide on cpu and screen.

Is going up from the T7250 to the T8100 going to be noticable? Also is it worth going up from the base screen at 15.4"

The T8100 is * slightly* faster and consumes less power and produces less heat. Consider it a defining edge for maybe an extra $25-$50 depending on your budget.

What are your screen choices and what will you be using your laptop for?

The T8100 would be a better choice, runs cooler and uses less power.

The screen resolution is a matter of preferences.

If you have to decide between better CPU and better screen I would recommend going with a better screen. The CPU can be upgraded later when the price comes down.

They usually have a big upcharge for the highest CPU...but not worth it to me. I'd always go for the top screen, no matter the CPU.

I pick the next higher CPU when it's an extra $25 or $50, but not when it starts going up by hundreds.

Agree with the OP's the T8100 vs. the T7250.

And, Dell always upcharges on the CPU. ;)

I would carefully chose bet. the screen and CPU, depending on what you will be using the 1530 for ;) :)

Good luck, and congrat's on your upcoming purchase! :D

Keep in mind the T8100 has the 3MB L2 cache which will definitely improve overall performance. I would go with it. 2MB L2 cache isn't awful but it isn't spectacular for running Vista either.

What are you goin to be using the notebook for?

To me the T8300 looks to have the best price\performance ratio.

WXGA+ is plenty for new games on a 15" screen
WUXGA for maxing out old games, watching high def films, photo\video editing etc.

I have the T7500 (2.2 GHz 4MB cache) and WSXGA+ LG screen .... I LOVE it... but I don't see those options, so I don't really know... I'm a fan of higher resolution with widescreens, but I suppose it really depends on what you're using it for...

Keep in mind you can always make text/icons/whatever bigger on a higher resolution screen if you need to. (so its not so hard to read)
