Can I persuade them to ship a configuration with 1GB of RAM with one stick instead of two 512MB sticks?

It's worth a try. Still thinking whether or not they would charge you on that.

Its not that they wont allow it, but rather, their automation wont allow it. Everything about your laptop is computer generated right from the order to final shipping. When the computer plugs in 1Gb of memory for a system, it is understood as 2x512...similar to 2Gb=2x1Gb.

Why dont you talk politely and close the deal with that upgrade? It wil probably work as it is not that huge and the salesman can use the sale.

Flamenko, Humans install the memory, they install everything. Not computers.

Yes...but the computers are what controls everything. Its like MacDonalds.... Have you ever asked for a Bacon double cheese burger with mayo?

Its just not done your way anymore lol.

EDIT: This is also the reason so many have had cancellations without any notification whatsoever. If an order gets to the build table and so much as one letter of one sku is wrong, the order is cancelled by the computer, not the builder. Many have experienced this with the CSR Rep replying "Oh yes, it looks like it has been cancelled but I dont know why"

In my one the burgers are pre-made but not pre-packed to give the "feeling" that the burger has "just" been made infront of the customer.

I'll give an update after I call, but until then, please keep the topic from straying to burgers. o_o

I have a replacement on order with 1GB of RAM. This was just placed yesterday, so we'll see how long it takes before it's canceled. :(

No, I agree with what you're saying. I thought you were implying that machines installed the memory.
