If I phone to customize a Dell, will they give me the same discount I can get online?

So I would like to phone Dell to customize a XPS16 as I've heard they will give me better variety (for example it won't let me select a 500GB 7200rpm HDD, only 5200 or SDD) but as I can get upto 17% off online models, will they give me the same discount over the phone? Or maybe even greater (or give me extras chucked in for free) if I'm prepared to negotiate? :D

    Cheers

Usually phoning in gets you a better price then online or chat. There's a great thread you should read exactly about that.

They will usually negotiate/throw in discounts over the phone, or at least match the online offering. Word of advise though, they tend to not be as comprehensive with every component and you have to really be specific about the configuration you're wanting sometimes, and make sure to verify everything before they place the order (maybe send you a customized email quote with complete component list to be sure you're getting what you ordered/want). Numerous times I've gotten quotes and they're usually focused on trying to design/select the system for you "what do you need it for/gaming, web surfing, office, etc" rather than detail each component, and one time I ordered over the phone and they didn't even include the parts and options we discussed, completely screwing up my system and leaving out many of the customizations - and refused to take it back. Definitely try to get some kind of written/email on large orders to avoid this.
