If my brother who has already said he plans to purchase and send me a new Dell laptop to replace his other one which I dropped earlier this year and damaged, what documentation should he include in the box with the laptop for me to have just in case a problem comes up once I start using it, a problem which would require me to have to contact Dell tech support?

What information will Dell tech support want to know besides the service tag ID number on the computer? If I was buying the computer myself I wouldn't bother asking this question but since I'm not I just thought I should ask. Should I try to get a copy of the invoice or bill of sale from my brother? Feedback appreciated.

All you really will need is the original persons name and address i believe to transfer the ownership.

I actually had a question on the same subject. If you were to get a studio for xmas and didn't like it for some reason and wanted a refund you have to go back and get the receipt from the person who bought it for you. Fair enough but if whoever gave it to you decided to avoid christmas delays by buying it a bit prematurely in late november or very early december then you're screwed out of your ability to return it as it's past 21 days. I tried to argue this with dell but they wouldn't talk to me as I didn't have a reference number. Which by the way I'll get on xmas day about 30 days from purchase :(

Well I might not receive anything before Christmas. I mailed my brother 4 laptop configurations last week, one for a Dell Inspiron 1525, one for a Dell Studio 15, one for an HP Pavilion dv5t and one for a pre-built Toshiba Satellite A305-S6872 which was sold at Best Buy. I mailed all of them to him with tracking last week, according to the web the information reached him earlier today. If it doesn't make it to me in time for Christmas I can wait a few more weeks.

The name and address don't verify anything, In order to verify the system we would ask for the customer name on the account and possibly the company name registered under the account, as BooBoo12 posted above you can do an ownership transfer into your name, all you need is the Service Tag and the company name to do it.
