You can try to sell the ram that you took out of your laptop on ebay or this site.

I notice that it's about 200bucks more if you want to get a 2GB RAM from a 1GB RAM when you place the order on Dell outlet but many ppl suggust me to upgrade it myself cuz it's cheaper, but I checked on newegg.com,finding it's also about 200plus bucks to get the 2GB RAM?

You should be able to get 2 gigs off Newegg for under $200 and what you're not realizing is that the 2 gig upgrade on Dell's site is $200 on top of the cost of what you're paying for the 1GB.

Yes, but assuming your current 1gb (2x512) costs 100 bucks. Dell's 2gb upgrade option costs 200 on top of that, which makes it cost $300 to upgrade through Dell.

you could also just buy one 1 gig ddr 667 stick, for around 80 bucks, and keep one 512, and net 1.5 gig running 533 , the chipset supports mismatched pairs in dual channel, and later on down the road buy another 1 gig stick, and net two gig at 667
